    Kb5003637

I just installed KB5003637 and it destroyed my taskbar; I am running Classic Start Menu and I don't know if that was an issue or not, but I uninstalled the update and things are working now.

Update: I disabled Classic Shell and still had problems with the taskbar.

I just installed KB5003637 also and no issues. Are you referring to the Classic Start Menu by using Classic Shell? I use that too. and no issues.

Yep, same one, been using it for years. Another issue may be that I have some programs that minimize to the taskbar and they may be causing the problem, but between the two, I want my programs and the update has to go.

That glitch was widely reported when the Preview update was released as KB5003214
KB5003214 update for Windows 10 is causing taskbar problems -- but there's a simple fix

It was supposedly fixed when the patch Tuesday update was released today as KB5003637
    https://www.windowslatest.com/2021/0...ne-installers/

Some people have reported already that turning of the new - installed taskbar - news and interest feeds has resolved the issue.

My own opinion is that this is yet another example of Windows10 being increasing less tolerant of third part apps that change the basic settings of 10 - eg in your case Classic Start Menu

After reading the "Windows 10 Build 19043.1052 is now available, download offline installers" and what the update does, I don't have any need of it, I don't use the news feeds.

It appears that things are working now - knock on wood. I restored an old image that was made before "News and Interests" and then installed all updates.

Problems with the taskbar with that update can be resolved by
    a. uninstalling (and then blocking) that update
    b. Setting the News and Interests icon to icon only, (and no Open on Hover if you wish) but leaving the icon present.

Disabling it is what seems to cause problems- my whole system tray/notification area vanishes after 1-2mins if do.

Cause remains unclear, no fix yet known. Widely reported.

I had done exactly what you said before restoring the image and after a little playing around with the restored image, the taskbar crashed. Back to the drawing board...

The only way I have found to be able to keep KB5003637 from destroying the taskbar is to show the "News and Interests" on the taskbar.

Now this is really weird, if you move the taskbar to any other position on the screen (left, top, right) the "News and Interests" option disappears and is not available and so does the taskbar icon for it. Move the taskbar back to the bottom and the option and icon are back.

Thanks, I hadn't looked at that but now they have my gripe.

The news and interests icon does ONLY work if the taskbar is at the bottom of the screen
How to Enable or Disable News and Interests on Taskbar in Windows 10

News and interests is only available on the primary monitor taskbar and where the taskbar is aligned to the bottom of the screen.
