Couldn't install updates using the account you're signed in with

I have an unexpected Windows Update problem: a recent update apparently can't be installed "using the account" I'm "signed in with".

Now, the account I'm using is practically the only account on the machine apart from the built-in Administrator account. It is a local account, but I that has never presented a problem.

The update in question is "2021-05 Update KB4023057". Funny enough, updates with this KB number has already been installed twice, back in March and January

I'm not at all concerned about missing something. It seems I can't update to 21H1 via Windows update either, however, I have done so on a laptop and haven't noticed any discernible difference, so I'm OK with staying on 20H2. At the same time, I don't like errors in my machine and hence would like to hear ideas, what is this all about.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi, here's your first error message in text form for search purposes.

We couldn't install some updates using the account you're signed in with. Try signing in with another account.

    Some basic ideas:
We Couldn’t Install Some Updates Using The Account You’re Signed In With

Unfortunately the text to the right in your 2nd screenshot is not visible.

I note you have some group policies or registry equivalents in place - the 'Some settings' message.
Which are those? Are you using Home, Pro or something else?
This may relate to the failure to upgrade to 21H1 - which is almost exclusively technical fixes.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the link, but the solution there is not for my problem - I don't use a Microsoft account, so there is nothing to verify.

Now, there is no text to the right of my second screenshot, here's the full window

I'm using an Educational version of Windows (exactly since it allows me to set Group Policies, although being free is not unwelcome either). The Policies set are minimal

There are other basic steps given in that article equally applicable to a local account. This is what I see of your screenshot if there's meant to be something to the right that you highlighted:

Funny enough, the issue somehow resolved itself. A couple of days ago the update appeared again and this time installed without any hiccups. I still don't know what was the problem exactly, but the question is now moot.
