    Microsoft still automatically installed KB4023057

Microsoft still automatically installed KB4023057 although it had already been hidden.
They no longer respect users' preference.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...1-7e392450fb3a since it's related to security and update infrastructure, I can understand why they would force that update.

KB4023057 gets reissued every year. Hiding KB4023057 does not quite do what you'd think.
It actually hides KB4023057 dated ….. not KB4023057 all versions.
This also applies to any other updates that re-use a KB number.

I have never heard anybody asserting that KB4023057 confers any benefit on the user. I have heard several members say that it makes it harder to bypass Windows update.
    - Windows update will download & install some security-related updates despite metered connections being in use. KB4023057 has always been one of these.
    - MS were open about bypassing metered settings but never explained which updates would get the security-related marker. Making it easier to upgrade to Windows 10

Windows 10 will not automatically download updates on a metered connection unless there is a security issue addressed within the update.

I uninstalled KB4023057 immediately and have run an updated script to prevent the reinstallation.
I will wait and see whether the next version of KB4023057 can be forced on my Windows.

Is this KB causing some issues on your PC or what?

I disabled it before it had a chance to cause problems.

I just found an English idiom that can be used in this context.

Nip in the bud - Idioms by The Free Dictionary

I have nipped this KB in the bud.

It seems from the Microsoft description of this update its sole purpose is to undo any workarounds a user may have to prevent windows updating. It is Microsoft basically saying "we will do whatever we want and you have no say in it".

Quotes from the Microsoft KB40233057 page:

"This update includes files and resources that address issues that affect the update processes in Windows 10 that may prevent important Windows updates from being installed."

"This update may try to reset network settings if problems are detected, and it will clean up registry keys that may be preventing updates from being installed successfully."

"This update may repair disabled or corrupted Windows operating system components that determine the applicability of updates to your version of Windows 10."

Luckily I found a bug that allows me to pause Windows Update for as long as l like through the Windows update settings.

KB4023057 re-enabled Windows Update Medic Service, which had been disabled.
I think KB4023057 will force the upgrade to 21H1 whether you like it or not.

I'm staying on 20H2. I still have a perfectly operable Windows 7 laptop despite (or likely because of) disabling Windows update as soon as I got the laptop all those years ago.

Windows would have to modify or override at least a dozen different settings in my computer to force an update on me.
