Latest variation on "Problems Installing Updates"

    Repeatedly getting the error message:
There were some problems installing updates, but we’ll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80070643)
when trying to install Security Intelligence Update 1.341.8.0 last night and today.
Usually these updates (i.e. this class of update) are rapid and completely trivial.
I can carry on trying .. .. but it's worrying, especially if "my" W10 platform is uniquely wonky and that's the cause of the failure. Sometimes one of you experts knows exactly what to do to crack this kind of problem .. ..
    Thank you!

    @fergusd

IF, your Windows IS wonky, the easiest way to fix things is...

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will look like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

Known issue to me. Defender updates are notorious for this error code.

I had exactly the same issue last night. multiple times of checking for updates and the same error message. I decided to roll back with macrium reflect , back to 5/30/21, and after a successful rollback, problem still existed.

I then reset and registered windows update, and the problem resolved itself. been fine since. However, I believe the problem was at MS end and not my end.

What I should have done was to check my other computers last night, to see if the problem existed on them as well, but it was getting late.
