    Issue(s) with 21H1 Update

Hi, all. I installed the 21H1 feature update today from Windows Update. It downloaded and installed in about 1 minute. After the reboot I found the following things: On top of the Settings window it said Windows Update requires attention. When I opened Windows Update it said "Please wait" with scrolling dots. That just kept going on and on. Winver showed version 21h1
Build 21H1 19043.985 which is correct but the Update history in Windows Update still showed Feature update to Windows 10, version 20H2 installed on 10/29/2020. The 21H1 Update did not show in the History window anywhere. It did show however in Programs and Features installed updates. I did a file scan to make sure the file system was ok which it was. I again checked Windows Update and it was still showing the scrolling dots. I uninstalled the 21H1 update and restarted but checking Windows Update again still showed the scrolling dots. At that point I restored version 20H2 with my Macrium image and all was well again. Anyone else run into this? I may try installing the 21H1 update again using Media Creation Tool but will wait for some replies before doing that. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Since you have a Macrium backup, you can "try" anything.
I would start with an In-Place Upgrade.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will look like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

    @Ghot:
Thanks for your input. Before I saw your post I ended up doing the upgrade using the Media Creation Tool. It took awhile to complete but all is well. I did notice however that the Windows Update history still does not show the 21H1 update or the KB5003173 update but the updates are showing in the Program and Features installed updates list. I'm assuming that this may be the norm for this update. A Windows.old folder was also created.
I just ran a file scan and some corrupt files were found and repaired.

In the taskbar search box type winver, and post a screen shot of the box that pops up.

Or just tell me what OS Build you have currently...

We don't really care what WU History says, right now. We DO care what "winver" says.

I have four ways to see what updates are installed, and they all say different things.

My winver shows Version 21H1 Build 19043.985
I just ran Check Updates and the Optional Cumulative Preview Update KB5003214 came up. I'll probably wait until Update Tuesday has this update available.

OK, you're one short of .1023.

KB5003214 will take you to 19043.1023
It's optional. It's an early release of the June 8th Windows Update.
You can wait, or you can get it now...

    KB5003214 Windows 10 2004 19041.1023, 20H2 19042.1023, 21H1 19043.1023

If you want it, Windows Update will list is as optional, or you can just download it from the link above.
The download link is at the bottom of the first post in that topic.

    @Ghot:
Thanks. I think I'll wait until the June 8th update. Then again, if my fingers get jumpy I might install the update sooner.

You can read the topic. It's pretty harmless.
Since you did the In-Place Upgrade... Windows is "repaired".

It would be a good idea to run your cleaners (whatever) and make a new backup. As long as you keep up with your backups, you'll be pretty safe.

The Windows update list of installed updates has always been a confusing & incomplete list. I don't think you had a problem at all.

@Ghot:: I did install KB5003214 after all and before and after did my scans and made Macrium images. Thanks for your input.

@Try3: Actually I did have a problem when I installed the 21H1 update from Windows Update. I ended up with a non stop Windows Update "Please wait" with scrolling dots. After restoring my 20H2 image and then reinstalling 21H1 via Media Creation Tool, Windows Update was working properly again. Thanks for your input.
