    What is KB5003242?

Posted this in another forum but thought it might better belong here.

A matter of simple curiosity after the install of update KB5003173. I have a Hotfix listing that I can not pin down to any specific update and was wondering if this could be the servicing stack that normally gets installed prior to the actual update install. I didn't install KB5003242 and can find no reference to it doing a search of these forums.

And, as long as I'm asking questions, why are all the "times" 12:00:00 AM?

Almost certainly yes. Look at Installed Updates in Control Panel and you will see that you got a Servicing Stack Update at the same time as the Cumulative Update.

There is no longer any seperate update for the servicing stack, the SSU is now rolled up into the CU and installed at the same time. However, although you can uninstall a cumulative update from the control panel, the SSU that came with it cannot be uninstalled. Therefore it makes sense to have it listed as a seperate hotfix.

The reason you cannot find any seperate KB article for the SSU is that there won't be one. The KB for the CU now covers both.

    Microsoft said:
Starting in February 2021, the cumulative update will include the latest servicing stack updates, to provide a single cumulative update payload to both Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and Microsoft Catalog. If you use an endpoint management tool backed by WSUS, such as Configuration Manager, you will only have to select and deploy the monthly cumulative update. The latest servicing stack updates will automatically be applied correctly. Release notes and file information for cumulative updates, including those related to the servicing stack, will be in a single KB article.

The installation time is a constant number.

    Code:
    Powershell Get-Hotfix

I must have run five different "List Installed Updates" commands I found here yet didn't think of checking the Control Panel

And here are all nine updates listed by Hotfix, and the Servicing Stack is there in the four updates installed on 5/12.

    Thanks guys, marking as solved!

Thank you for the explanation, Bree.

I searched for this early this morning, and could find nothing. Now I understand.

    Curiosity satisfied. Much appreciated.

the easiest way to access the classic Control Panel with Installed Updates list is to run appwiz.cpl (that launches the old Programs and Features control panel) and click on the View installed updates link near the top left hand corner
