20H2 windows update who is "My Organization"

I did the windows pro install on my Aleinware R17 laptop. I have been puzzled when I see the statement "Contact your administrator" when I can not make things work with the network. WHO IS MY ADMINISTRATOR ? Apparently the person is not me yet I need to be that person. And then I have this question:

It says that "your organization managing your update settings" How do I find out more about this organization ? Does microsoft assume I belong to one when I do not ? This computer does have office 365 and during the setup of microsoft outlook it asked me if I wanted my Organisation to manage my email settings. I believe I said no that I want to manage my own settings.

Hello, this question has been often asked. All you need do is to use e.g. Google and search for the text of that message.

Bottom line: given that you have Pro: at least 1 of these is true:
a. a registry change has been made equivalent to a group policy related to Windows Update
b. you or someone else has made the change using the Group Policy Editor
c. Some third party utility you've used has made this change

To find out what change has been made you can
a. Use the Group Policy Editor and set it to view configured policies.
b. Probably if you look at Windows Update there will be a similar red message and a link to click to see what is configured in outline.


Finally- there is no evil organisation in charge of your PC. Simply reflects the intended use of the GP Editor- by an IT dept.

@dalchina is correct that a similar message will appear in red on various pages in the Settings app if some types of registry or group policy changes have been made. All the those types of message say 'some settings are managed by your organization' or minor variations on that.



But that is not the case here. That specific wording, and only appearing on the blue screen as updates are being installed, has only one known cause. An update for Windows Autopilot has been installed. Here is that message from one of my machines.....



Autopilot is used by businesses to deploy their corporate Windows configuration and business apps to their employees' machines. Autopilot is specifically designed by Microsoft to allow organisations to remotely manage and deploy update to their employees' PCs, and that wording above is only seen as part of Autopilot.

Autopilot updates should ONLY ever be received by machines that have been enrolled in Autopilot. But MS has been known to have incorrectly sent Autopilot updates to all W10 Pro devices, not just those that were enrolled in their company's Autopilot program.

Apparently according to MS having an Autopilot installed in error on a machine not enrolled in Autopilot has no ill effects and can safely be ignored. And apparently no one has any idea how to remove this lingering message that your organisation manages your update settings (which persists even after the Autopilot updates have been unistalled) despite my asking here on Ten Forums....

KB4532441 Cumulative update for Autopilot in Windows 10 1903 and 1909

...I have three W10 Pro 1909 machines that got the Autopilot update at various times. It can be uninstalled in Control Panel > Programs and Features > Installed Updates, but despite Microsoft's reassurance that "If you were offered this update and do not use Autopilot, installing this update will not affect you" there is one very visible after-effect of having had it installed, even after it has been uninstalled. Every time updates are installed Windows tells me that Your organisation manages your update settings.

How do you remove the Autopilot update completely?
