Windows 10 made update to 20H2 from 1909, what should I expect

I have been delaying the updates for the 20H2 iteration, I am wondering how is it possible for the update to carry on,while I had WAU Manager set to disable the built-in Windows, along with the 0&0 Shutup10 disabling windows update feature. I did have the update paused, maybe when it had reached the date, It finally downloaded on its own.

From this update what are some of the thing I may expect, I want to keep my eyes open for any changes or something breaking within the system. I am really looking for stability. Since, I am using windows 10 home, I can't really go into the policy/rules to turn off the windows update feature, Are there any other ways to do this?

Hi, this has been discussed time and again and you can readily find threads that list the ways.
- two tenforums tutorials on ways to disable WU including a free 3rd party program as Option 7
- Sledgehammer (older, I used it to stay on 1903 until an upgrade to 20H2 recently).
- there are other freeware programs that claim to as well.

Note that you can use Windows Update Minitool (WUMT), Windows Update Manager (WUMGR) and the one in Option 7 to scan for and select updates manually.

Free methods of blocking Windows Update have been around for several years.

O&O Shutup is aimed at so-called telemetry rather than Windows update, for people who fear MS might be trying to get a copy of a photo of their favourite dog, and don't realise that MS needs feedback to take product decisions.

20H2: My experience:
a. Cortana has been completely re-implemented and is now truly useless. I used to use it to set reminders- not too bad even when it said (in supposedly British English) When d'yer wanner be rminded?
b. Almost all the reminder I had set in 1903 were lost after the upgrade.
c. Changes in windows search. Probably not noticeable from 1909.
d. I found Networking broken- my 2 PCs were networked- I've never got my 20H2 PC to access anything on my 1903 PC after the upgrade.
e. I found when dragging a file there was now a solid instead of a translucent rectangle under the mouse. I had to redo the small theme change I'd made years ago in Settings.

I've not really noticed anything else that's affected me.

Hi Dalchina,

Thanks for the detail output of your experience. I did notice some minor windows UI changes, Good thing I do not use cortana. I haven't yet to find anything broken. I am pretty sure I will stumble upon soon or later. By the way, Did you happen to jump from 1909 or was it a clean install for you?

I totally agree with you, I have my doubts as well about so called telemetry, I should find something that open source to help with disabling telemetry and other privacy concerning matter.

I ll look into those WUMT and WUMGR, see if it makes any difference without windows update sneaking back to update things.

I have been following tenforums for a while, I do realize it has been mentioned, discussed in detail in the thread. I find the community very helpful and knowledgeable. This is where I found some of the useful guides that saved me from all the trouble from windows related problem.
