My understanding of this facility is that it only works until the specified Version reaches its end of support date, after which automatic updating to the current Version takes place [unless, of course, other measures had been taken to prevent updates].
Have I misunderstood it?

Thanks but I already disabled the update service and Windows Medic service which I later discovered kept re-enabling updates against my wishes. Trying to force updates on me isn't going to work Mickeysoft, I used to support your older desktop and server OSes for a living so am wise to all your tricks and have learned to never be an early adopter/unpaid beta tester of your products.
Actually, some users here have been trying to prevent the automatic updates forced by M$.

I know what this forum is all about - helping people with Windows 10 and I'm not accusing you or anybody here of being a Microsoft employee - this mini-rant was aimed at Microsoft itself. I was merely echoing the OP's justified apprehension of updating his OS. There will always be risks involved. Most of the time things go smoothly, sometimes not. Some things are easily fixed, others require expert knowledge. Know the risks involved - do the benefits outweigh the risk? Do I feel lucky? Do I have lots of time to spend in case things go south? Can I afford to be without a fully functioning PC while I attempt all the suggestions to restore full functionality?
Best advice If you are going to update is to be adept at drive imaging/backing up your data and be prepared to spend lots of time fixing any issues that may arise post upgrade.
If you're a PC pro you can fix your own problems. Then again, if you're PC pro you're tired of fixing problems.
