Great decision. Make sure as a minumum you image all Windows partitions not just 'C:'
Then use it regularly. Large enough external storage required.

And arrange to hang back on Windows Updates one way or another.

You have Pro, so why not use your Group Policy Editor to set WU to 'Notify' - which means that YOU are in control and no update is downloaded until YOU say so... until perhaps end of service life.

And you can use group policy to defer feature updates for up to 365 days.

Thanks I'll do that. I just know they will still get me eventually after the 365 days. I just feel that many of these upgrades/updates are not really necessary. Cheers.

Not necessarily- use one of the 3rd party utilities or Matthew Wai's solution (tutorial), or that in the tutorial on disabling Windows Updates.

Yes, there's a whole tutorial on that!

there is no way to get the colours (taskbar etc) back to exactly as they were before the upgrade
Right-click on the Start button --> Windows PowerShell.
Run the following line of commands to back up the colours:

    CMD /C Reg export "HKCU\Control Panel\Colors" "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\Colors.reg"

I am glad that you got there in the end.

I strongly suggest that you create a System Image NOW, and then AGAIN after you have applied ANY customisations or Software installations.
