Update from 1909 to 20H2 Stuck at 99%

After 4 hours of waiting the upgrade from version 1909 to 20H2 is stuck at "Getting things ready 99%" - after several downloads and installing operation. How long do I wait?

Can I reboot via the power switch and see if that clears it. Any other options? Can I go back to 1909 which worked just fine for me.

I am running Win 10 pro

    Hello @carrotmuseum,

I would give it a little longer. It can take quite a while on older machines due to Hardware specifications etc.

    I hope this helps.

Ok thanks, will wait overnight, not holding my breath. I understand it also changes all the colours and there is no way to put it back exactly to how it was before. Ridiculous if true! I am guessing it is too late to save the previous settings.

If you do NOT need to use the computer, then let it run a while longer.

Did you create a System Image BEFORE the Upgrade?

If so, and it does NOT go according to plan, you can always Re-Image.

    I hope this helps.

Having read the following sentence, I think the OP did not create a system image.

Didn't do a system image, or system restore.

I was meaning that IF the upgrade finally comes down, there is no way to get the colours (taskbar etc) back to exactly as they were before the upgrade(according to the forum posts on this matter). e.g. Taskbar Color Change

Never understand why M/s does this sort of thing. I like my colour scheme and NOT the one enforced my Microsoft. I know you can get it back to "something like" - BUT not the same.

Not very helpful for the OP. Have you got any ideas then?

The OP can learn a lesson. Both personal files and settings can be backed up.

If you do that when the new O/S partition or partitions are partly created you could easily end up with an unbootable PC. You simply don't know what it's done.

You would then deeply regret not having been using disk imaging (of at least all O/S partitions), if you've not yet started to do that.

There are numerous threads on 'How long does it take' ' Should I wait..' etc. Time and again the answer is given - sometimes it can take hours.

However- if after, say, 9 hours, no sucess or outcome, you can try that. Ideally on reboot you will find changes are being rolled back. Or you might be unlucky and find your PC is unbootable.

In one case, I found the former. What I then did, as I have posted before in answer to such questions, was to
    a. disconnect the internet
    b. attempt the upgrade using a downloaded iso file
    c. chose not to receive updates as part of the upgrade.

I happened to be successful. You might not, in which case if your PC is still bootable you will need help from @zbook or @Tekkie Boy for example and detailed analysis of your log files with special tools for you to run
