No idea what you mean. It's now a full 10 hours and the wheel keeps spinning. IF it does become unbootable I am walking away from Windows. Too much interference and constant "updates" none of which I asked for or need.

Will leave it overnight. then it could be curtains!!

After 4 hours of waiting the upgrade from version 1909 to 20H2 is stuck at "Getting things ready 99%" - after several downloads and installing operation. How long do I wait?
Maybe I've been lucky but I've yet to have any update take over an hour to complete. To me 4 hours seems extreme, and now 10 hours... something isn't right.

Even on my old 2013 Asus Zenbook Prime with 4gig of memory no update has taken that long. And I'm running insiders on it.

IF it's still bootable after this... I would completely uninstall AVG (free) then try an In-Place Upgrade.

AVG removal tool: Install AVG on your PC, Mac | AVG installation files

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

An In-Place Upgrade will repair AND Upgrade at the same time. Best of all, your programs and files will be intact.

As for your color scheme... yes it will be lost, BUT, you can pretty much get it back. I think the only permanent changes were to the Start Menu tiles background color.

I stayed with 1903 (2019, April) on one PC until very recently, no updates. No problems.
But 20H2 did create a couple of problems and was a functional downgrade.

My other PC remains on 1903.

Easy and free to do that.

The top member uses Sledgehammer to control Windows Update.
The OP may consider using it.

It has finally finished after 14 hours of depriving me of my laptop. I have yet to experience ANY "upgrade" to Win 10 which has made my laptop better, in fact everyone has caused hassle. Remember the wireless problems? M/S has lost its way.

Use disk imaging beforehand as the top member often suggests.

At first glance, it seemed to mean "everyone (on this forum) has caused hassle".

    @carrotmuseum

Might want to consider an external hard drive so you can store backups.
With good backups, you can try anything on Windows. If Windows breaks, just restore from a backup.

I meant every "update" has caused hassle, not everyone on the Forum, who are mostly helpful. I have all data backed up but not a full laptop back up. Will try that free Macrium software.
