    Can't install Defender definition updates...

    Hello folks,
As from this morning it seems again something wrong with Windows Updates, particularly with the definition updates. Have already many attepts but seems it doesn't work - error and finally not installing. What is going on here, I have never seen my system not to be able to update its own Defender definitions.
    Any advices will be appreciated.

Run the following command via elevated Command Prompt:

    "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MPCMDRUN.exe" -RemoveDefinitions -All

Restart Windows and run the following command:

    "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" "-SignatureUpdate"

    See whether it works.

Thank you Matthew, it worked! Problem solved.

Had a similar error on a Defender definitions update last night (in my case, the error was 0x8024200b). Looking around and I spotted some other people mentioning similar errors yesterday on Reddit's W10 subreddit.

I fixed it by going to Defender and getting the definition update from there, and then checking for updates again on Orchestrator (which it wouldn't find the definition update anymore and clear out the error). The text in temp/mpsigstub mentioned stuff like the Defender engine in the attempted update being older than the current system where it was obviously not going to work as an update.

So I guess servers were a little weird yesterday? My other device updated flawlessly through Orchestrator around 13 hours ago (5 hours after the experience I'm describing) and i'll see later if the error returns in Orchestrator (edit: it did not return upon starting the machine that had the problem last night, all is clear)

Run the .bat file in the tutorial below and see whether you can get a clue from the list:

That used to happen to me, which I only remember happening on 1909, appears to mean it was cancelled by Windows Update, because another update was in progress, suspect that it's because of prioritizing CUs. The error-code-occurrence, seemed to stop by sometime during summer of 2020. I can't remember seeing this error code with 2004 or with 20H2.

Fortunately, Microsoft Defender has not surprised me so far.
