    Denis, Sorry, no...Win 7 has nothing to do with my problem. Briefly, I inadvertently destroyed the original OEM WIN 10 version when I installed Linux. With no way to recover the OEM, I bought a copy of Win 10 online and installed it.
    So neither of your scenarios is correct.

    Incorrect. The OEM Windows 10 Pro key is embedded in the bios. There was no need to buy anything....

    Being supplied with Dell OEM Win10, then the Win10 key will be embedded in the bios firmware. A clean install with Win10 install media downloaded from Microsoft will find and use this key.

    It might be me but you never know.. has he put the wrong Windows version on?
    Are you using home or Pro reinstall disk?

    Using your Dell System Service Tag ID / serial Number you can download the Windows ISO for your machine.
