You could first try => How to Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks for the idea.
I tried it but no difference. The response I received was exactly like all the others.
Could not complete update so removed what was done and rebooted. I am back to where I was when I messages forum. Any other ideas???

    @Shiron

Error code 0x80070422 means "ERROR_SERVICE_DISABLED - The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."

But you haven't deactivated the Windows Update service with any third party tools?

    Friendly greetings

    Hello @Shiron,

In a CMD Prompt, type the following TWO commands and press <Enter> . . .

    Code:

    sc start wuauserv
    sc config wuauserv start= enabled

Also, try this => How to Run Troubleshooters to Find and Fix Common Problems in Windows 10

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Shiron

I’m not an expert and note you have been reading and trying to solve this issue yourself and my suggestion below you may have read and tried to no avail.

But have you tried to resetting Win update service?

To do so go to control panel>administration tools>services----in the right hand pane scroll to find Windows Update, ( I can click directly, you may have to right click, then properties ), In the box that appears, under the general tab, "start up type" select Auto, ( mine is set to manual )

Same box, underneath “ start up type” , make sure Service Status “start” is selected, ok everything.

Then try update again, but first disconnect anything you don’t need and maybe disable your AV.

The thing with your error it could be a myriad of things from programs/apps/folders not uninstalled properly to something you have connected.

No doubt there will be better methods suggested but if all else fails and an absolute last resort, back up everything, unhook what you don’t need, fresh install of your existing OS, Then MS Update Assistant and from there update to 20H2 making sure you have installed any patches/tweaks and then re-hook your ancillaries .

I’m writing the above and thinking gosh! that’s a real pain so try other suggestions/ things first.

Please post a screenshot of your Update History showing the last successful update and this failed one.
The forum prompted you for your Windows Build number as Samuria has reminded you. Thanks.
