Remember you can use Notify in Group Policy to delay the download of W updates and feature updates as long as you like (barring end of service life perhaps).

I've still outstanding: networking - can see 1903 PC by name and icon but no access to shared folders. I changed nothing on the 1903 PC of course. And thanks to MS changes I've lost what was a quite convenient way of setting reminders, and a feature of Windows search.

I'll probably install WUMgr to give myself a measure of control over Windows Update in the future.
Consider: Using CMD script and VBScript to control Windows Update

Thanks @Dalchina & @Matthew Wai for your helpful suggestions - family medical problems are a priority just now (not Covid, thank heavens) but, now I have updated to 20H2, I can defer the next bundle of Microsoft joy for a bit while the inevitable bugs get ironed out and until I have the time to oversee its installation.

The said scripts can kill the joy rather than just defer it.

I thought you had already stated this but cannot find it now -
    - Your network's shared folders do not appear and therefore cannot be browsed to in File explorer, Network, <NetworkedComputer>?
    - Your network's shared folders return an error when accessed through the address bar:
    \\<NetworkedComputer>\SharedFolderShareName>
    ?

Perhaps my memory is faulty. I thought we had discussed network issues. Perhaps my head has been WUed overnight and previous contents have been scrambled.

    All the best,
    Denis

You suggested I try re-enabled access on the 1903 PC. I replied I'd tried that. I've checked conventional settings.
As of now I've rather given up on that- and as I said transfers will be by USB disk.

Curious as to what happened but tired of fighting MS. It's a matter of relative importance and having other things to do...

I found a solution to Cortana reminders in the OP.

    I use pencil and paper.
It even has the added advantage that I can... take it with me when I leave the house.

I'm lazy- I like having reminders pop up automatically. Then I don't have to find the piece of paper.. but yes, I have a paper 'to do' and 'outstanding' list.

I've used Outlook for years - I'm still on version 2010. I sync reminders, appointments, contacts and reminders to Google with CompanionLink and then to an Android smartphone. I guess it's a really clunky way of doing things these days, but it works for me (most of the time!). Paper's no good for me - can never remember where I've written something.

You could consider directly syncing to your Android phone using MyPhoneExplorer.
    - Whether the computer & the phone are linked by USB, Bluetooth, WiFi network or the phone's WiFi hotspot, MyPhoneExplorer syncs between them reliably.
    - MPE contains highly customisable synchronisation tools. You can sync files of your own choosing and you can sync Calendars, Contacts, Notes & Tasks from PIMs such as {but not limited to} MS Office outlook.

Download & installation comments - post #3 in a TenForums thread
Some setting up advice in post #2 of the same TenForums thread

The series of MPE settings … posts in that thread from post #14 onwards provide further setting up guidance as well as illustrations of many of MPE's syncing capabilities.
