Perhaps I am overreacting to your particular choice of words.
Judging by what has been discussed before in this thread, I think you mean a Macrium Reflect system image so you are referring to the Macrium Reflect boot USB.
[It was Macrium that was discussed in posts #16 & later.]


You should not have to install Windows again. You can just use your Macrium Reflect system image to restore an earlier state of the OS disk that predates whatever problem makes you consider reinstallation. It is an awful lot less work than a reinstallation as well.

Do remember that the Macrium Reflect system image covers the whole of your OS disk including any of your own files on it so restoring the image would overwrite your own files with whatever their state was when the image was made. You need to make separate backups of your own files. I generally make a new system image every month but make backups of my own files much, much more often.

"CD"? I imagine that most people make a Windows 10 installation USB rather than CD. It is easier, it can be re-written whenever you want and it does not break if you sit on it.

Hi denis,I did the system image from windows security is that the same thing?I dont have usb sticks so cd,s or dvd,s are ok for me,Im probably about 10 years behind eveyone else lol,I did download that macrium but could,nt get to grips with it,I think I was trying to do too much all at once,I will have another look once i,ve had chance to explore the new stuff on this version of windows,its installed a lot more things than what I had on my old version

If you have a problem getting to grips with Macrium then I think you could post in that Macrium TenForumsTutorial I gave you a link to. Macrium users always seem only too pleased to assist others to use it.


It's entirely up to you but I stopped using DVDs about ten years ago when [GB for GB] USB sticks & USB-connected hard drives became cheaper.

wow I am behind,Ive never even heard of USB connected hard drives,thank you for informing me about the windows system image warning,I will download the macrium maybe later in the week and try again with it

this is all new to me,technology changes so fast

It changes with each passing day. My 12-year-old USB HDD is extremely out of date although it has been working fine.

You do not have to switch over straightaway but just bear them in mind before spending any more money. If you are going to spend money then spend it on external HDDs.

Your existing backups will not become useless overnight.

The sizes of external HDDs make them suitable for system images as well as backups of your own files. I also keep a copy of every installation file on mine.
- I use two of them. I backup to one of them during one week and the other one the next week. This doubles up everything. So I can even survive both the computer and a backup HDD failing at the same time.
- I started with 120GB external HDDs and now use 4TB ones.
- My older, smaller external HDDs are not wasted. I move very old things that I hesitate to delete yet do not honestly expect to need any more - I have, just for example, my first 2010 backup of a Windows 7 computer on them.
