    Enable / Disable Windows Auto Updates


    Hello,Reading the tutorial on you site "Enable / Disable Auto Updates for Windows....", I decided to use (as on option 7), the
    "WAU Manager".Till now I disabled the updates in the "Task Manager" by disabling the win update service. (But cannot postpone the updates any longer).When I start using that "WAU Manager", do I have to enable the service in the Task Manager or leave it disabled.Answers will be appreciated.ThanksMotimWindows 10 pro x64, winver 19041.264

    Haven't we updated our PC in a while hmmm...? You are running a very old version of Windows so it would be a wise thing to update your Windows to the latest version. And why on EARTH would you want to disable your Windows Updates?

    Hi, have you tried the online help? It's meant to be independent of Windows Updates and not require the user to go poking around at all..
    WAU Manager does not use the built in WAU schedule. Instead, it has its own schedule which works regardless of whether WAU are enabled or not. In fact, for WAU Manager to work flawlessly, you should disable Windows Updates completely. You can do that in WAU Manager's Dashboard module.

    However, I also noted this:
    WAU Manager does not disable the wuauserv service. Windows 10 uses the wuauserv service for many things other than to install the latest patches, such as updating Windows store apps, updating the Windows defender definitions and installing feature updates. WAU Manager takes care of the latest patches and the Windows defender definitions, but not the rest, so we can not just disable the service.

    WAU Manager disables the automatic updates by setting up a group policy in the registry. Windows 10 does not respect this group policy completely. It will still search for mandatory updates regularly and eventually install them. Let’s hope that will change in the future when they realize that users want full control of the automatic updates.

    - plenty of reasons why some may wish not to let MS apply updates automatically.

    a. stability
    b. hang back and wait for MS to sort out what they've messed up - which they do from time to time
    c. compatibility
    d. anything else...

    I agree Motim. I think the proper response to your question was to answer it. We all have our own opinions and I would give you the advice myself that it would be a truly good idea to update. Why you may say. Well lots of reasons but the security updates and certain functional reasons. But its your PC and your choice I myself am merely giving opinion. Sorry for the other persons attitude.
