Can't update, restore, reset my PC

    Ok, anything that's installed on Windows can have folders in many places and registry keys as well (exe/dll type programs that is). So any programs like that, unless fully portable, would have to be reinstalled. There might be some related data you could copy of course if you can identify it.

    I.e. you can't just normally copy the installation folder from one O/S to another in general.

    I copied the files I needed for games to run like Red Dead Redemption because I knew it would be a pain in the ar** to get that downloaded again.
    I also copied things like music and videos frm the .old file, I didn't copy over any windows files incase one of them was causing my earlier problem.

    The install files themselves are on my D drive.

    Why install files (programs) on the D: drive and not on the C: drive with all programs?

    Although it can be done, and sometimes does work, it is not recommended and more than often a recipe for disaster. C drive for programs, D, E, F ... (internal or external) etc for personal files.

    Storage, I have alot of large programs. I used to have 3 hard drives now I just have one.
