    Two Update Issues.

I seem to having two issues with my Windows10 updates.

My first issue is the biggest. For the past two week my laptop (which I only use about once a week) has been trying to download February's update (KB4601319). But it keeps failing and coming up with an error code (0X8ooF0988).

The second issue is some red lettering that says "Your device is missing important security and quality fixes". I have never had this appear before.

I will add that I did have some other updates from Feb that downloaded perfectly fine, however I restarted my computer (not update and restart) to see if it would fix the issue. When it rebooted the option to update and restart (or update and shutdown) were no longer available and the red text was now present.

I've never had problems with my updates before and honestly don't know what to do to fix these issues, and was hoping someone could help me figure the out. Please keep in my that I am pretty computer illiterate and would greatly appreciate answers that are easy to follow.

I have had issues before that this forum has helped me out with, with spectacular results, and I you guys can help me out again.

    Thank You.

Hi, searching tenforums for your error number 0X800F0988, one way to resolve that was found here, albeit the sledgehammer route:

    Windows update error; 0x800f0988

Note it quotes another thread where the same worked- so do feel free to use tenforums as a resource to search for solutions.

Note you missed the forum prompt:

For the in-place upgrade repair install if your build is 2004, you need a 2004 iso (tutorial available on downloading iso files)

If 20H2, you can use the MS media creation tool.

Of course you can also experiment and try the tutorial on resetting Windows Update, and then try manually downloading the update from the relevant News article:
    KB4601319 CU Windows 10 v2004 build 19041.804 and v20H2 19042.804

I believe my setup is 2004, but I can reply with further info later.

    - - - Updated - - -

Yes I am running 2004. Also, I tried to run troubleshoot for updates (to see if that may fix the issue) but it seems to keep sayings "check for pending restart", but doesn't go any further. If I cancel it and try again, it doesn't come up st all.

    - and have you restarted?

    You can try
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

    - and if stll no joy, proceed with an in-place upgrade repair install as above.

I am not entirely sure what happened but the update finally downloaded correctly. Its just needs to be restarted to finalize it.

I'm not going to click "problem solved just yet, in case there are more issues.

Thank you for your help so far, dalchina, and i'll report how it turned out very soon.
