    Numerous update download errors


    I was looking at my wife's surface pro 2 tablet running windows 10 version 2004 installed 9/23/2020 last night and discovered that the last updates failed to download: They are starting from the bottom to the top.

    1. Update for removal of adobe flash player (KB4577586) error code 0x80080005.
    2. 2021-02 Cumulative update for .Net Framwork 3.5 and 4.8 (KB4601554) error code 0x80080005.
    3. Update for Microsoft Defender (KB4052623) error code 0x80080005.
    4. Cumulative Update Windows 10 version 2004 (KB5000802)error code 0x80080005.
    5. Security Intelligence Update Defender (KB2267602) error code 0x80080005. I ran Update Troubleshooter and it failed with error code 0x80070426.
    I've tried to run windows reset but nothing happens. I've downloaded windows reset update tool and it will not install.
    Any suggestions? Thank you

    Hi, suggest you run a couple of very basic checks first:
    From an admin command prompt run
    chkdsk c: /scan

    then if ok
    SFC /SCANNOW

    If ok try
    Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

    then re-run the WU troubleshooter and post a screenshot of the result.

    I've downloaded windows reset update tool
    - could you advise what this is?

    Okay I've ran both scans and scannow indicated that there was corrupt files that were successfully repaired. The windows reset update tool was something I found that was supposed to solve my issues, but it would not install, in fact I can't seem to install anything on this tablet. I tried to download the reset windows in windows 10 on my desktop and move it over to the tablet, but the bat was blocked indicating that it could harm my device.

    After the scans I've restarted the tablet and the screen shows: Getting windows ready, Don't turn off you computer, it shows working on updates and shows a completion percent. The tablet stated up and I went to windows update and it started downloading and installing updated and shows the tablet is up to date.

    Glad it was easy. As to the bat being blocked: this is covered in the tutorial instructions- it's likely a normal side-effect of Defender. Please do not think that items offered here are dubious, but caution is always wise.

Windows Update Fails Numerous Times
in Installation and Upgrade

17 to be exact so far today. I have cleared the software dist. folder numerous times...ran wuauclt.exe/updatenow and everytime it fails. Any ideas? Thanks chad
