Feature update to Windows 10, version 20H2 not downloading.

A clean install is what I most want to avoid. I put a lot of work into customizing Windows and installing programs. I don't want to lose that.

Probably the easiest way to deal with Feature Update issues, is the old In-Place upgrade...
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

I had trouble going from 1909 to 2004. Did the in-place upgrade. It was done in approx. 40 minutes total.







Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.




Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will look like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.


The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.






It's very quick and simple. Best part is that it fixes Windows at the same time.

You don't HAVE to use the Media Creation Tool, to get the ISO image... there are many different ways to do that.
But... the ISO image is bay far the fastest and easiest way.

Or you can spend 3 weeks to infinity, trying to figure out why it's not working through Windows Update.

P.S. An In-Place upgrade also fixes problems with Windows Update. ^^

Settings -> Updates & Security -> Troubleshoot -> Additional troubleshooters -> Windows update
