One of my laptops is stuck in a failed update loop. It attempts to install KB4601319 and rolls back changes after failing. All it says is updates failed to install (or words to that effect). Then it starts over. I'll already postponed this update for as long as possible so that's not an option. If this were a full feature update I would boot it from a DVD and install that way, but I'm not sure how to proceed with this one. Any help will be appreciated.

    Edit:

I am running Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.630) on this laptop.

Hi Victek, I also experienced several failed attempts to install KB4601319 and use version 2004. I simply downloaded it from the Microsoft Update Catalogue and it installed with no problems.

I've indicated the 64bit download below, the 32bit is the next line (x86)

    @Victek

    The rt640x64.inf driver is missing.

!!! inf: INF 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\rt640x64.inf_amd64_8984d8483eef476c\rt640x64.inf' could not be found. Code = 1000
!!! sto: Failed to get version info for driver update 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\rt640x64.inf_amd64_8984d8483eef476c\rt640x64.inf'. Error = 0x00000002
    <<< Section end 2021/02/26 14:44:52.403<<< [Exit status: FAILURE(0x00000002)]

If you want, let's try the following to fix the error:

Download SFCFix.exe and save this to your Desktop.
Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop too.
Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
Save any open documents and close all open windows.
On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.

SFCFix will now process the script.
Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
    Then upload the SFCFix.txt.

Well, I did try the update again, and this time it completed successfully! Apparently running SFCFix took care of the problem ( ? ) I'm now being offered the latest feature update which I have put on hold for the time being; I've had enough with Windows updates for now. Thanks for your help. I will mark the thread solved.

    Glad to hear.

With the SFCFix Tool and the SFCFix.zip Package we have copy the missing driver files in the right folder.

    Take care
