    Windows Update GPO bug?

    Hi, I am testing on my laptop certain Group Policy settings under the Configure Automatic Updates.
    My policy is now set to the one from the attached image.

    I did a gpupdate, restarted and then after that, as a test I UNINSTALLED the last recent Windows Security Update and then again restarted my system and clicked on Check for Updates and Windows Updates started to re-download the same Update again but without notifying me to Install them

    However, I did not get any notifications about installing the updates when the Policy mentions that the updates are automatically are downloaded and NOTIFY the user to INSTALL them once after the downloads complete.

    I added some more images - And Windows Updates settings states that We will Auto Download updates AND Install them, while the Group Policy states that users will be Notified to Install them.

    Is there another way I can test this policy setting instead of using the above mentioned method?

    @win10freak

    A lot of us use one of these methods, to keep some control over Windows Updates...

    Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10

    Me... I use Option Seven.

    Guys, referring to 3rd party methods to control updates does not begin to address the question asked.

    @win10freak Your group policy setting refers to the case where the update is automatically downloaded.

    clicked on Check for Updates and Windows Updates started to re-download the same Update again but without notifying me to Install them
    If I've understood what you've done correctly, you manually checked for updates, rather than waiting for the automatic update to run.

    Thus your test is not a proper test. If you want to check the gp works, you'd need to let Windows complete a normal background update automatically.

    (I actually prefer Option 2 - Notify of available updates)

    Yep...that explains it. I manually checked for the update from the Updates settings. I should have mentioned this.

    Your correct, I will stick to option 2 as well.
