    How long until 20H2 auto-installs itself ?

So just wanted to know this because i literally have no idea and for me i think 2004 automatically forced installed if i remember right.

If i am on 2004 right now how long it will be until 20H2 will force install itself on my PC just like 2004 did last year ?

I mean how long can i keep 2004 before i really have to install 20H2 ?

The optional Feature Update should switch from being optional to auto-install the latest version at or near end of support for your current version, typically 18 month after its release date. 2004 was released 27 May 2020 and reaches end of support on 14 Dec. 2021.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...e-information/

The MS definition of 'near' appears to be any time in the three months before end of support, so the auto-install becomes increasingly likely from October 2021 onwards.Note that by the time the auto-install kicks in 20H2 will no longer be the latest version, it's likely to be 21H1 (or 21H2) by then.

But what's your reason for not updating to 20H2? If your 2004 is up to date then you already have all the 20H2 features, they are just dormant. A small Enablement Package turns them on, it's a minor feature update that installs (and can be uninstalled) in the same way as any cumulative update. If you have not already been updated to the new Chromium Edge, then the Enablement Package will do that too.

    Microsoft said:
Windows 10, versions 2004 and 20H2 share a common core operating system with an identical set of system files. Therefore, the new features in Windows 10, version 20H2 are included in the latest monthly quality update for Windows 10, version 2004 (released October 13, 2020), but are in an inactive and dormant state. These new features will remain dormant until they are turned on through the “enablement package,” a small, quick-to-install “master switch” that activates the Windows 10, version 20H2 features.

The enablement package can be uninstalled at any time in Control Panel to revert your system to 2004, though the new Edge will remain installed.

The benefit to you of enabling the 20H2 features is that end of service for 20H2 is May 2022, meaning you will keep your current system as it is until then, putting off a major feature update for as long as is practical.

the machine i'm on now, which was 1909, forced 20H2 on me yesterday w/ no warning, as per my other thread it was a bit of an ordeal lol.
my other machine, which is 2004, is still just showing the message that the update's available. i think i'll fire it off at the weekend though, apparently the download is a lot smaller if you're already at 2004.

Yes, if you already have 2004 the enablement package is about 80MB, installs like a CU, and can be uninstalled to go back to 2004 as I showed in post #3.
