Troubleshoot Windows updates after an in place upgrade repair

Today an in place upgrade was performed without updates:

    18363.1139 ----------> 18363.418 ----------> including some manual updates18363.1316

The computer is not installing the updates after the repair.

It's taking a lot of time to manually install them using the Microsoft catalog.

The Windows update troubleshooter was ran multiple times.

    There were multiple reboots.

How can you troubleshoot the failure to upgrade?

    8229 can be uninstalled.
The update menu displays pending install.

So problem with information on 8229 too.

This may sound weird but have you tried
after running sfc, doing a clean boot then downloading?
    Excluding updates from virus/malware checks?

Why don't you try an in-place upgrade to the latest version of Win 10 and then you would skip straight to 20H2.

One of the failed in place upgrade repairs was using 20H2.

Also HP software for this model has not yet been upgraded to the latest Windows versions.

A clean boot was used for the latest in place upgrade.
AV are Microsoft Defender and Malwarebytes free.

It's likely that another in place upgrade with updates will fix the current problems.
    There were three performed.

I'd like to see what's available to troubleshoot the update problems so that it's a learning experience.
Log checking, upgrade error codes, etc.

Do you do the updates with the system connected to the internet?

An in place upgrade was successful but there are update problems.
It was done in clean boot and without updates.

Prior in place upgrades had failed.
    There were more than 3.
Several were 20H2 and others were earlier versions.
Most were connected to the Internet.

Resetting the Windows Update components can usually solve these types of issues.

Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

Please go to this page and download Fix Windows Update by Ramesh Kumar and save to your Desktop.
(Click on the hard drive icon with a downward arrow).

    • Extract it to your Desktop.
    • Then, double-click on the program and click the Fix Windows Update button.
    • Reboot your computer and see if it will work now.

There was a script from Technet that was used multiple times that reset the Windows update components.
Each time it was ran it would display updates available and attempts to update displayed pending download.
There were one or two that were able to be installed directly from the catalog.
So it has failed with 5 remaining updates.
This week I may perform another in place upgrade.
