You could also just turn SmartScreen... OFF, temporarily.

1. Locate to this registry path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

2. Navigate to SmartScreenEnabled String Value in the right pane.

3. Set its value as below(For you, it's should be set as "Off"):

RequireAdmin = Get administrator approval before running an unrecognized app from the internet
Prompt = Warn before running an unrecognized app, but don't require administrator approval
Off = Don't do anything








4. Set it back to Prompt when you're finished.

I would but I do not touch the registry. I stay away from it.

That's why I took a screenshot.

The registry IS Windows. It's just not user friendly. But there are some things that need to be done in the registry, sometimes.

You can right click the "Explorer" key shown in the pic (on the left side) and choose: Export
Save it to your desktop.

Then if anything goes wrong, just double click the exported .reg file to undo what you just did.





I can see you haven't been a member of Ten Forums for that long.
But you can trust anything Brink puts out, like that .bat file.

Maybe this is easier for you... here's two registry patches.
Just put them on your desktop. Double click one to use it.

One disables Smartscreen, the other re-enables it.

I have no idea why Smartscreen is reacting the way it is, but I went through the code in Brink's .bat file.
There's nothing bad in there. It just resets Windows Update.

If you don't like that method, you can do an In-Place upgrade which will fix Windows Update as well.

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will look like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.


The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

Back in June, I was trying to go from Windows 10 v 1909 to Win 10 v2004. I kept getting errors.
It would NOT accept the May 2020 Feature Update.

So... I got on a 4 hour chat with Microsoft and they walked me through an In-Place Upgrade.
It fixed any and all issues I had with Windows, and all my programs and data remained intact.
