Thanks for all your help, sorry for long delay.

I have installed Macrium and "created bootable rescue media" on a USB stick.
But I have no idea what do do with it !

I have also "created an image of the partitions required to backup and restore Windows" on an external HDD.
But, again, I am unsure what to do with it.
I thought it was only saving system files but it appears to have all of C: drive when I didn't need my personal files backing up as I have them elsewhere so why is that ?
And does it need to be the ONLY item on that disk or can I keep other backups on it too ?

Why does "Image selected disks on this computer" appear to do exactly the same thing?

You can keep as many Images on an External Disk as the Disk will allow.

    Fantastic Paul, many thanks.

Obviously I still have a lot of learning to do.
What I am worried about, being reluctantly new to 10, is something going wrong with the 20H2 update when I risk it.

Regarding my HDD, I only have the one image on it but lots of other stuff too like my personal file backups and a Win10 ISO waiting to be burnt to double DVD.
    Is this still OK ?

The solution would be to create a System Image prior to the WU. That way, if things go wrong, you can Re-Image it back to the OS state prior to the WU.

I would recommend that you do NOT keep System Images or Backups on the same HDD/SSD as the OS, because if the Disk fails, you could loose EVERYTHING.

    I hope this helps.

Sorry Paul, maybe I didn't explain properly.

The Macrium image I have just made is on an external HDD along with my other personal file backups not on the OS drive.
Question was is that OK or does the image (or images) need to be the only thing on that disk.

Creating that image before attempting the WU is exactly what I am trying to do.

    Yes.

You can have whatever else you want on the same disk as your system images.

    Thanks Denis and Paul.

Looks like I am all set then.

I will bite the bullet and attempt WU tp 20H2 today or tomorrow.

"...I will bite the bullet and attempt WU tp 20H2 today or tomorrow..." Reminds me of a movie where the open-Viking father of a hidden-Viking son (Kirk Douglas) in the king's service took the offered sword and jumped into the pit of lions or tigers.

Well it all went swimmingly !!!!

Download and install took less than 10 minutes which really surprised me.

Especially as the last normal security update took over half an hour.
