    In-Place-Upgrade - Repair Install

This is a Non-Destructive Process which keeps ALL your Apps, Programs and Personal Data intact . . .

IMPORTANT: This is an extract from the Tutorial below . . .

    • You will only be able to do a repair install of Windows 10 from within Windows 10. You will not be able to do a repair install at boot or in Safe Mode.
    • You will need at least around 8.87 GB + what Windows is currently using of free space available on the Windows drive.
    • The installation media (ex: ISO or USB) must be the same edition and same or newer build as your currently installed Windows 10. If it's not, then the repair install will fail.
    • The installation media (ex: ISO or USB) must be the same base language (aka: system default language) as your currently installed Windows 10. If it's not, then you will not keep anything.
    • If you have a 32-bit Windows 10, then you must use a 32-bit ISO or USB.
    • If you have a 64-bit Windows 10, then you must use a 64-bit ISO or USB.

    > How to Do a Repair Install of Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

    Basically . . .

[1] Download the ISO to the Desktop.
[2] Right-click the ISO and select Mount.
    [3] Open File Explorer.
[4] Double-click the mounted drive letter to open it.
    [5] Double-click setup.exe.
    [6] Choose the Upgrade option.
[7] Select Save your programs and data when asked.
[8] Unmount the ISO [ right-click the mounted drive and select EJECT ].

The ONLY downside is that you could possibly lose some of your personalizations.

    I hope this helps!

Note: I advised how to get an appropriate iso file above.

Want more? See Tutorial section- search for 'in-place'

But the above short instructions should be adequate- note that Mount will not be available if you have associated 'iso' with another program.

    Thanks again Paul,

I hope that zbook comes up with a solution, I’d rather not do an upgrade repair just to restore the ability to get future updates. That seems a bit drastic when otherwise the PC seems to be working fine.

    You are VERY welcome.

If zbook comes back and decides that an In-Place-Upgrade - Repair Install is required, you have pretty much got all the information that you need to continue with it.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks Paul and dalchina,

I have downloaded the ISO file from Heidoc, I selected the language as English rather than English International. There wasn't an option for English (United Kingdom) that is currently installed. Before I apply the repair please can you confirm this is correct as I don't want to lose anything.

I have selected 2004 and then Confirm then I get this choice:
    Windows Update doesn't work anymore-untitled.png

Check base language of your O/S thus - from the Tutorial section:
See System Default UI Language of Windows 10

    Thanks again dalchina,

Yes that is what I saw. If I look at language from settings then it is shown as English (United Kingdom), when I check as you suggested looking into the Registry editor the LCID is shown as 0809 and the install language as en-US. I think the correct LCID for en-US is 0409?

So am I correct in assuming that the "English" rather than "English International" option is correct for my current installation?
