    Windows couldn't finish installing updates

My Asus Z68 pc had an update that just refuses to run and gets stuck ina loop after the reboot. it downloads, but after reboot. a never ending loop. I have more computers, but this is the one that this update is just screwed up. I spent 4 hours today trying to fix it. I am almost positive MS screwed up something.. To top it off, some of these updates are things no one cares about, unless it is security, it is usually stupid stuff they add. IMHO. I have to tell my wife I am working on her computer, when in reality MS screwed it up.

Here is the snapshot... just running update, because the update is causing the computer to go into reboot then stuck with the never ending circle of failed update screen.. no message, just that circle going around until another reboot, where it says removing the update files because update failed. Only option is to turn off updates.

    Thanks, you provided this info:
Build 19042.630 - 20H2 - so definitely an update, not upgrade.

    Error msg
There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800703e7)

First try checking your disk and file system to establish basics.
Use e.g. Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) - SSDs too- best instant comment I know of.
Else if you just want SMART params- e.g. Crystal Diskinfo (free).

    If ok run
    chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or Powershell prompt.

    If ok similarly run
    sfc /scannow

    Then try:
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10
    and try updating again.

    Still problems? Then try:

I did the sfc /scannow scan a few days before when it first happened. (no help

My other Windows 10 computer (Asus z170, which has ssd drive) has had no problems with updates.

I ran the update diagnose tool (2 days ago) for updates, no help.

There's more in my post than that. The basic checks are just that- I know nothing about the state of your PC.

The basic checks are to establish integrity, not necessarily to fix things.

And you haven't actually said if SFC /SCANNOW passed. Nothing about the others.

    Hope you find a solution.

I thought about just going back to a past save. Wife uses computer and I don't want it down during the week, leaves me only with one day when she isn't here when I can do what I want, but must be running when the warden gets home.

btw, this ssd has it own software for checking itself. Silicon Power SSD (SP) has software called toolbox. it says the ssd is good.

The last I had an error like that the only way to fix it was to stop the Windows Update service and restart it. After that the update was able to finish successfully.

I really appreciate the help, the frustration just really slaps me around.... and very bad health. There was another update, of some type the other day, no problems with that,, but this cumulative update is porked. I keep reading about others with the same issue. I am just going to delay trying any more for a while. I have spent countless hours up through the nights. I can't risk having this computer go down, the wife will go crazy if that happens. So, I will pop in and see what's new over the coming weeks. Again thank you for your help (EveryOne here).
