MS Printer v6.1.7233.1 update fails...every day...but shows success?

    Folks,

Every day I get a "Failed Windows Update" for Microsoft Printer 6/22/2006, v6.1.7233.1. See the pix, below:

    MS Printer v6.1.7233.1 update fails...every day...but shows success?-ms-printer-update-failures.jpg

Selecting the technical details, the Description reads, "DescriptionInstallation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80240017: Microsoft - Printer - 6/22/2006 12:00:00 AM - 6.1.7233.1."

Yet, when I open up Control Panel and look at Updates, I get this:

    MS Printer v6.1.7233.1 update fails...every day...but shows success?-ms-printer-update-success.jpg

    I'm running Win10 build 19041.630.

I've searched for solutions, but I have not found anything.

    Anyone have a suggestion?

    Thanks,

    Ken

A question I'd usually ask is what printer/s do you have and are they fully installed using the manufacturer's software? I've never seen a Microsoft printer but have used several different brands starting with a Panasonic KXP-2124 Dot-Matrix back in '92.

Usually see an issue when removing a device and uninstalling its software that something gets left behind in the Registry and Windows Updates will see it. Sometimes helps to Uninstall all items in the involved section of Device Manager, rebooting and test for issues.

    Thanks for looking.

I have one networked printer set up, an HP 8630. I've installed and used the same HP drivers for years.

This MS printer driver update appeared on November 10th, and nearly every day since. I have no idea if it is meant for internal Windows10 use (such as "print to PDF" or other non-printer options), or why it appeared.

Device Manager/Printers only shows the one HP 8630, with no errors.

I have not (knowingly) added or removed anything that could cause a call for a printer driver update.

I have an obtained-used [free, rehabbed] HP OfficeJet 8620 [replaced an 8600] and an HP LaserJet M148, both attached by Ethernet cable to my Router. Only issue I've seen on both Wired and Wireless connections from Desktops and Notebooks was a recurring prompt to install the HP software for the OJ and only weird issue with that is it kept showing the CD as the source.

The printer is fine. The printer is using the HP drivers.

The issue is that I am getting "spammed" by the Windows Update Service to load a driver that I don't (think I) need. And, that driver shows failure every time, but Windows Update shows success.

    This occurs every day.

I'd like to either successfully load the driver update (but not use it), or delete it from my Windows Update queue.

The best I can determine looking at Devices on my computer is it may be associated with Microsoft's Print to PDF.

The last post in this recent thread indicates that it's probably caused by Malwarebytes:

    Windows Update = Microsoft - Printer - 6/22/2006 12:00:00 AM - 6.1.723

And refers to this BleepingComputer article of a couple of weeks ago:

Malwarebytes is kicking Windows printers offline

Similar problem. However, I do not run Malwarebytes. I am currently just running Windows Defender.

    same problem

I am seeing the same problem as OP iamc3k.

Windows repeatedly wants to install Microsoft Printer - 6/22/2006 12:00:00AM - 6.1.7233.1, which it reported as "Successfully installed" on multiple occasions already. This has been happening for over a month.

Running an updated Windows 10 version 20H2, OS build 19042.662, on a Dell laptop.
    Any ideas will be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    I appreciate the reinforcement.

I now have a second computer trying to update this driver. Sigh.
