    Undo Update 2004

I am running Windows 10 on a Microsoft Surface Go 2-in-1. When I clicked Update and Restart, it installed Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.630)
The screens were as if I had just installed Windows 10. It gave me what would be Welcome to Windows 10 and Tips for how to use it. Windows Update History only gave me that update and no previous history.
I am very nervous about how to Undo 2004.
I think I was running 2019, OSBuild ?? I misplaced my System Log folder.
Can you give me the steps to Undo 2004? Thanks, cb

As long as you haven't cleaned up the system and removed Windows.old you have 10 days after the upgrade in which you can go back to your previous system.

Go Back to the Previous Version of Windows in Windows 10

That 10 days can be extended, if you want more time to think about it. 2004 has been out for six month now and is quite stable, you may decide to keep it.

Set Number of Days can Go Back to Previous Version of Windows

I am not a sophisticated user.
There are 2 options. Which option is easier to do?
    Thanks, cb

The easiest option is to do nothing and stay on the 2004 you now have. Apart from being nervous about it being 'something new' is there any good reason for you wanting to go back? Currently 38% of the world's Windows 10 PCs are already running version 2004 according to AdDuplex's survey. I don't expect you'll have any problems with it.

You would have had Windows 10 version 1909 (or maybe 1903) before Microsoft updated you to 2004. They would have to be updated eventually as they will reach their end of support soon and get no further patches or security fixes. Each version of Windows 10 has a supported life of 18 months, support for 1909 ends in May 2021 (1903 in Dec. 2020).

If you really want to go back, then the first link tells you how to do that straight away.

The second link just requires you to open a Command Prompt as an administrator and type one line of command to give you up to 60 days in which you could go back.

I would recommend you use the second link to give you plenty more time to decide if you really do want to go back to your old version.

Sometimes there are unexpected problems with software and hardware:

    operating system corruption
    registry corruption
    drive file system corruption
    malware
    ransomware
    failure to boot
    drive failure
    etc.

    Consider making free backup images:

    Bree:

I was so shocked by the sign-on screens wanting to introduce me to Windows 10 and my Update History disappearing, I put it to Sleep and have not used it since.
I will run it for a few days then decide.
If I go back, I will try the 2004 update again in a couple of weeks.
    Thanks, cb

Update History always is cleared on updating to a new version, your previous update history was for the old version and is no longer relevant.

There's always a 'Welcome' screen on the first sign in after updating, but once you have read it you'll not see it again and your PC will be back to working as normal.

I will run it for a few days then decide.

Don't leave it too long. Unless you use my second link to change the number of days then you have just 10 days from when you got 2004 in which you can go back.

A couple of questions after Update to 2004 on my Surface Go:

I paused updates to December, but when I do a Restart, it does a Definition Update:
Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus.
    I didn't expect that.

I got a dialog box that asked for my Bitlocker Recovery Key.
I signed-on to my Microsoft account using my desktop PC and got it from there, it was accepted on my Surface Go, and I was able to log on.
I had never knowingly enabled encryption. Any idea why it did that? Should I do anything??
    Thanks, cb

Right click on Bitlocker in "Services" Select Properties, then choose Manual ... okay
