    Windows 10 October update will only do a clean install


    Hi there

    I'm trying to update from the May version to the October version by downloading the tool and choosing 'upgrade this PC now'.

    It does its usual getting things ready, but when it comes to actually updating it does not give me the option to keep files, it only has the keep nothing option available.

    Any clues as to why this might be, or has anyone else had the same experience ?

    Known bug not acknowleged by MS yet as I understand it. Read through from here- there seems to be a fix people have worked out.

    Thanks for that, I don't need to upgrade right now I will see if there is a fix from MS in a few weeks, if not I'll try the solutions listed in your link (or a fresh install)

    There is now a fix for the issue:
    KB4586853 CU Windows 10 v2004 build 19041.661 and v20H2 19042.661
