Stick with 1909 or update to 2004?

I recently realized that I never updated to 2004 and Windows never really tried to make me update to 2004. I remember there being problems with 2004 when it came out. Should I stick with 1909 or upgrade?

(I have a Gigabyte Aero 15 X9 in case it is relevant; AERO 15 (RTX 20 Series) Specification | Laptop - GIGABYTE U.S.A.)

Hi, there's plenty of information about 2004 and the issues some have experienced- see the relevant article in the News section 'What is new in...' and comments following. There are other threads as well of course. When you've done that, decide if any of those may be significant for you/ your particular configuration.

Then look at the features offered by 2004 and decide if you really want or need them.

Then consider end of service like for 1909 is May 2021 last I looked - after which no more routine updates, and you could be automatically upgraded - unless you take steps. However you can stay with 2009 if you disable Windows Updates (tutorial/3rd party utility).

Want to try it? Take due precautions as normal. Create a current disk image (e.g. Macrium Reflect free-paid) - hopefully you are already using disk imaging.

Attempt the upgrade, and extend the roll-back period - up to 60 days from 10 - see tutorial.

You then have 2 ways back- roll-back and restore disk image.

Note too the issues related to 20H2 (2009).

Or you can find out the hard way by having the update forced upon you. Even though I'm on 1909 and was supposed to be getting the current update a couple of months from now. Instead of 2004 now.

No one has to have updates forced upon them.

For several years there have been means to stop that- free- mentioned many many times here.

    I recently moved from 1909 to 2004.

    No noticeable benefit.

Had to re-configure a few things as some of my personalized settings were over-written by the upgrade.

Some degree of aggravation periodically in exchange for nothing tangible.

If I don't like it, I can take my business elsewhere.........like everyone else.

Is there anything that I can do besides deferring the update to prevent it from installing? Now that it's been downloaded?

You can block feature updates in Group Policy if you have the Pro version

I have the Home version. So I guess that's impossible then.

In post #2, if you're talking about an upgrade to 2004 you wish to reverse, I mentioned how to do that.
'Go back to the previous build'.

If you're referring to an update, most can be uninstalled.

I have the Home version. So I guess that's impossible then.
Not true. Did you note I said this:

I'll list them once again ( mentioned many times here):

These block Windows Update, then you use them to manually scan for and select updates.

    Tutorial:
Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10
    Free utility Option 7.
Someone mentioned a minor bug encountered recently- alternatives:
Windows Update Manager Wumgr - Google
Sledgehammer - Google (a bit more technical - I use it).

And you can find tutorials to disable a specific update (the utilities can do that - 'hide' them).
