Win10 home in S mode version 1909 product key

I purchased a brand new laptop yesterday from a well known UK computer store, it came with Win10 home in S mode version 1909.
I'm happy the way everything is running, my only issue is I cannot find where my product key for above OS is stored in case I ever have to reinstall onto another ssd drive in case this one fails.

Tried to download Produkey which has served me well in the past, new Win 10 in S mode will not allow the download , neither can I get into the registry to have a look due to the OS security.

how can I find the product key without switching back to the okd win 10 which is on my desktop?

In S Mode you can only download Store apps. Fortunately ShowKeyPlus is available as a Store app.

    Bullfinch,

Recovering the product key may not be that important. One of the more gurus here may be able to add more info regarding installing on a new drive. See if this link helps. Where Can I Find Windows 10 Product Key for Aspire E 15? — Acer Community
    It says (in part):
The product key for new computers that come preinstalled with Windows 10 has the product key stored within the motherboard firmware. When you reinstall it will pick up the Product Key and activate the system automatically. If you have not created USB recovery media, you may get the same from Acer store or please contact Acer support in your region to get the USB recovery media. This media will include all files for Windows 10 installation, Acer preinstalled software and drivers.
Acer Worldwide : Acer Worldwide - Select your local country or region
Read on in the web site for more information. You will find that as the install progresses, the product key will be accessed automatically.

This tutorial Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade may be helpful for creating and using recovery media for you. I hope this helps.

In Settings, Update, Activation does it show you as being activated with a digital licence?

If so, you do not need a product key. You can just reinstall, skip the product key step and it will reactivate automatically when you next go online.

The product key is embedded in the bios firmware. ShowKeyPlus can read that, but you shouldn't need to know it. In a clean install Setup.exe can read this key from the firmware and use in in the install.

Though a better protection against a failing drive is to make a system image with something like Macrium Reflect Free. Then you can restore that to a replacement drive and carry on with your original system just as it was before.

For an S Mode machine you can't install Macrium. You'd need to install Macrium on another machine, make the bootable recovery USB, then boot from that to make the system image.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

With the key being in the firmware you shouldn't even be asked to give a product key.

Though I'm not sure if you'll be able to clean install S Mode with the standard install media from MS. I don't have any S Mode machines to test that on.
