Preview Update KB4580419 - Mouse Cursor Latency

I just got force fed another Preview Update, KB4580419. I ran the System File Checker and no issues were detected. At first, I thought it would be OK. Then, I started to notice my mouse cursor was behaving as if it had an annoying latency.

After I confirmed to myself that the mouse cursor definitely had issues, I removed the update, rebooted and the mouse cursor was normal.

This is the fifth Preview Update that I've been force fed since 1 August. I'm not enrolled in the Microsoft Insider Program, and these Preview Updates were not optional updates.

I've paused updates for 7 days.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I'm going to report it to Microsoft, but I wanted to check in here first to see if I'm the only one.

I don't think Microsoft should be force feeding Preview Updates. They aren't fully tested. All Preview Updates should be optional.

    Regards

Interesting ...... I voluntarily dug up and ate that update today and no issue so far. So it was not an optional update for you?

Check your mouse driver maybe if it has a special driver, to see if it's up to date.

It was not optional for me. I don't know why, because Microsoft says Preview Updates are for those enrolled in the Windows Insider Program. I'm not enrolled.

I've got the latest available mouse device drivers installed. Windows Update hasn't offered me an updated mouse driver since I purchased this HP notebook in November 2019. HP Support doesn't have a mouse device driver posted on their HP Support website. I've got the Microsoft generic HID compliant mouse device driver, dated 21 Jun 06, installed.

Check your mouse maker site/model for any driver updates.

Yeah, I'm being force fed that preview update as well. Then there is this "Optional Quality Update" I will have to check into before making a decision:

I'll let you know @tjg79 if it has any ill consequences on my system as I am well aware that you have been having that mouse issue and HP blaming Microsoft and vice versa.

I'm using an HP Spectre wireless mouse. There are no additional device drivers. It uses the Microsoft generic drivers.

I just removed v20H2, because I thought it was causing unwanted automatic scrolling. The removal didn't resolve my scrolling issue. I don't intend to reinstall it. I'll likely roll back to v1909, because HP Support hasn't updated their OEM device drivers yet for v2004.

I was presented v20H2 via Windows Update on Tuesday, and they've already got a quality update, although Preview Update. Microsoft is getting sloppy with their releases.

Well that (KB4580419) (Preview) Cumulative Preview update is done and it didn't even require a restart. I have no idea what it was for other than the .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 20H2. I'm not an Insider either, so I have no idea why they are labeling it a Preview Update?????

I had no consequences from the update; but it sure would have been nice if I had known it was silently downloading.

I still don't appreciate the fact that the update comes this late in the month when my data allowance is low and I had no option to make a decision on it. Heck, if it wasn't for me manually checking the update window, I never would have known it was downloading! It was just there downloading away without me knowing it.

I shouldn't have to seek out third party utilities to get these silent updates under control and Microsoft is really on the borderline when this update was silently downloading on my system. We should have the option to tick download; but no, this update was going on silently in the background and like I said, it didn't require a restart, so I had no idea my system was downloading it.

These .NET Framework updates are flying off the shelf left and right these past couple of months and it is starting to get a little irritating.

It's a Preview Update, because it's not fully tested. Microsoft force feeds it to their herd of guinea pigs to see if it's got bugs.

Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10 you could try using this to hide the preview updates and leave updates enabled

As far as I know, clicking on "Check for Updates" will install available .net preview updates.

It would of course be nicer and more logical if they would appear under "Optional Updates".
But then Microsoft would probably have less telemetry data and would have to test more itself again.
    It's just a horror...

I also got the KB4580419 installed.
    So far no problem.
