I don't think my computer installed latest cumulative update

    Windows 10 Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.508)

Hello, my problem is that I'm pretty sure judging from the OS Build number that the latest cumulative update for this month wasn't installed. I think what happened is that when the computer was on earlier today, it downloaded (and I don't know, maybe even installed) the update but the computer was turned off instead of completing the update. When I turned it on this evening I got a message that some updates couldn't complete because of something shutting off so I went to Windows Update and downloaded and installed a few minor updates (including something for .Net Framework, but it might not have been the big one) but I saw no cumulative updates. After the minor updates were done, I tried clicking Check for Updates but it says the system is up to date. I know it probably isn't since there's a cumulative update every month and the OS Build number for this month's is supposed to be different. I reboot the computer and try Check for Updates again. No luck, it still says system is up to date. But according to the update history the last cumulative update installed was KB4571756 on 9/8/2020.

I also don't see a Cumulative Update for .Net Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 this month either. The last cumulative update for .Net Framework I see in the update history is "Cumulative Update for .Net Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based systems (KB4571756)" also installed on 9/8/2020.

So what do I do, do I ignore this and wait for next month's cumulative update to come out? Could my system even be damaged in some way I haven't noticed yet? Can I do something to make the Check for Updates feature actually detect and install this like it should? Should I install the cumulative update manually and is there anything else I should install first if I do? Does the same go for .Net Framework? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello @Phoenix555 , welcome to Ten Forums.

The main monthly update comes on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. So for October, that would be the 13th.

There is a "preview" of the same monthly update, already released, which will bring you up to: 10.0.19041.546

The "preview" is available under "optional updates". Or, you can just wait a week and get it then, when it's released on the normal channel.

    The preview is KB4577063

Thank you for the welcome. Ok, that's a relief, between the message and the minor updates, I was afraid the major updates came today and I somehow missed them. Glad that isn't the case, thanks for your help.

    Phoenix,

If you ever want to check which Net Framework Cumulative updates have been issued then use this link
    MSUC - Net framework CUs
then click on the header of the Last updated column to get them into newest-first date sequence
then come back to TenForums and search for that update by its KB number. Personally, I never install one until I've seen it discussed in the Windows 10 News section of TenForums
    e.g. KB4576945 Cumulative Update .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8 Windows 10 Oct. 1

Similarly for Windows 10 Cumulative updates
MSUC - CUs for Windows 10 Version 2004
    - after I've done a Version update I manually change the Version number in the Properties of that link [it's the last 4 digits of the url address]
    - There is also an info page at Windows 10 update history - MSSupport but I always wait until I've seen TenForums discussions of these before deciding to go ahead.

I normally wait until at least the main update issue day [2nd Tuesday] before doing any updates at all [other than WD updates] each month.
I make a new system image before doing any Version updates or Windows 10 Cumulative updates.

    Denis
