    Update KB4576484 Closing several programs

On Sept 8th Windows generously offered and installed 3 updates. Included was - KB4576484 Cumulative Update .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8 Windows 10 Sept. 8.

After installation at reboot I found that 3 small programs by different authors from different continents no longer worked. The message was cryptic and gave no information other than: Error had occurred and the program would close. Any action taken closed the program.

Over the past few days I have lived with the problem and this weekend I decided to do some testing. The solution was to uninstall kb4576484. With that removed everything went back to normal.

Then today Windows update got me again and installed the missing kb4576484!!! I have turned off my updates for the max 30 days but I'd really like to let someone at MS know there is a problem or figure out how to disable this update until there is a fix?

    Any thoughts? Thanks,

    Rick

Hi, it's easy enough to hide (block) an update. From the huge Tutorial section (well worth becoming familiar with and making use of this)

Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

Easier is to use a 3rd party tool such as WUMgr to scan, select and hide:

Note- there will be subsequent updates to .NET framework which you could expect to include the same changes.

I'd really like to let someone at MS know
Other than phoning Satya Nadella you could try the Feedback Hub app (Win key + f)

I see there's an update to Cumulative Update .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8 Windows - KB4576947

It seems to have addressed my problem. Thanks to all for the help.

They have been issuing updates to that in quick succession. Seems odd..
