[QUOTE=Maggidon;2015487]I understand from the Tutorial, that I can save that file to my Desktop, click on it and let it do its thing. Well, of course choosing whether to do a 32 or 64 bit. What am I missing other than my right mind?

Before you give up... try WAU Manager. Option 7, here:
Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10

Does this make the SoftwareDistribution old or am I off base? Also, what do I do when I open up this program? Do I disable or enabled updates? I'm totally confused!

Set it up like this... and then click the Save and Apply box (lower left). Then just click the Update Windows Now (lower right)

When it's done searching, it will present you with a list of available updates. Just put a check mark in all (except any driver updates), and then click Install Checked (upper right).

This isn't anything complicated. It's just a way to check for updates while NOT using WU. IF it works, then you know the problem is with WU itself. If this doesn't work, then you have an issue with something OTHER than Windows Update.

/edit... I notice you have Norton 360. If that has a firewall, you need to make sure that WU is allowed "through" the firewall.

Thanks for that, but this failed up also. Do you go along with an In-Place Repair because nothing else is working here.

    See my edit, first.
I have Bitdefender Internet Security, which has a firewall. I had to allow three things iirc, through the firewall to get WU to work at all.

    svchost.exe
    trustedinstaller.exe
    wuauclt.exe

If you want to go back to the normal WU, just uncheck the very top box on the WAU Manager dashboard, then click save and apply in lower left.

I can see nothing in Norton that is blocking WU. In fact, I cannot even find it there. But since the program found the update and attempted to install it, would that in itself not mean it isn't being blocked by Norton?

You're saying the WAU Manager found the update(s) yet failed to install? If so, you want @dalchina for this.
That would be outside my abilities.

As for Norton 360, you could just shut it down temporarily, and try either WU or WAU, and see if you can install, the updates.

WAU Manager indeed found the update and failed to install. Weird and wonderful.

There is another setting in WAU, under Advanced Options. I haven't had the need to try it yet, but you might try WAU again and check mark the Force Install Updates under Advanced Options.

I don't have these problems. I use Macrium Reflect backup software (free). It pretty much makes things on Windows 10, a LOT easier. If something doesn't work... restore from a backup and try again.

As for an overall fix... you can do an In Place Upgrade, which pretty much re-installs Win 10, but saves all your programs and data.

    search for in-place
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Short version: (which I have posted numerous times):
Download iso file (or use one you have for current build)
rt click iso file, click Mount
Open new drive letter in file explorer
    double click setup.exe
Thanks again for your efforts. Again, if I right click on the MediaCreationTool downloaded to my computer, I see nothing there about creating a new Drive letter.
When I click on this MediaCreationTool, it presently gives me two options, (1) Updgrade this PC now (2) Create Installation Media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC.
I would think the first is what I want to do, correct. This is far as I've dared to take it without further instructions. I take it that this will give me a choice to save everything on my computer, right? Thanks for your patience!

When I have issues that backups won't solve... I do the Upgrade this PC now.
It will reinstall Win 10, but keep all your programs and data.

During the Upgrade, you'll have to TELL it to save your programs and data.

I've already had to do this once, since May 2020 when I first installed Win 10.

The only thing "Upgrade this PC" erased was my tweaks.
