Version 2004 can be updated to build number 19041.685?
That would surprise me as 20h2 only consists of a feature enablement update and the cumulative update files are actually the same as those from build 2004.

If you find out anything else, ping me.

    You’re welcome.

    Friendly greetings
@Tekkie Boy, sorry, not been able to do anything due to a couple deaths in the family and some other issues around here :/

Not sure what build I have, but think its:
Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "10.0.19041.423"

It won't let me update to anything else but the 20H2.

I've sent MSI support ticket and they have only said to reinstall clean Windows version 20H2 (which does it as we know.) Then they said to RMA the motherboard. Not sure what that will fix...

Intel has told me to talk to MSI and had me try a few programs to make sure the Intel software is up to date, which it seems to be according to them. Nothing else.

Microsoft has told me a few things mainly what Tekkie Boy has already had me try, to no avail either...

It is sad to read something that nobody feels responsible and tries to help. :/
If I could help you I would. But that's all I could do on this one.

    Friendly greetings

Still not a word from MSI. Even put in another ticket and got zero reply.
I guess they want me to buy a different brand in the future...

The problem is with the z97 chipset and people with boards from other manufacturers with the same chipset also have the problems.

But it's sad that MSI doesn't respond and provides a fix.

Even if the board isn't the newest.

Well I'll be... I have the newest BIOS (1.D=1.13) for quite a while now, but when I was looking at it in the BIOS the date was different then the release date of the one on the MSI website. So I downloaded it again and reinstalled it, and now it still shows V1.13 but the date is far closer then as on the website (02/16/2016 in BIOS and 02/17/2016 on the website)!
The weirdest thing is I tried to install the 20H2 update after like before and it worked this time!! So I'm running 20H2 now and it doesn't seem like any issues so far. I have 11.7.0.1057 of the IME driver from trying different things with @Tekkie Boy...

So I don't know why it suddenly worked or why the BIOS versions were the same but different dates, but its working now...

...and still not a word from MSI...

    Interesting.

I could imagine that Microsoft has fixed the problem with Intel ME problem with a newer update.

But unfortunately I don't know exactly.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Intel dropped support for Haswell and Broadwell processors in the IME drivers. It is a problem that can be mitigated by an updated bios to handle the processor microcode update, no manufacturer is willing to do this so far, or reverting to a older bios. So far I have been able to upgrade to 20H2 on an EVGA z97 Stinger Core3D by going to a 2014 bios and a Gigabyte z97 Gaming 5 with one of similar vintage. Currently running Linux on the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 but will play with that soon. As soon as I tried to update the bios after upgradind it was bsod city.
