    KB4023057 Microsoft Update Health Tools Installed?

    Hi... I am running Win10 Pro 1909 on a newer Dell PC. Also, Win10 Home 1909 on several other older Dell PCs. No problems on any and I am delaying 2004 as long as possible.

    Today, I noticed that Windows Update installed KB4023057 and "Microsoft Update Health Tools" has also been installed.

    Can someone please tell me what they are for now? since KB4023057 seems to have been controversial in the past, with older Win10 versions. I looked the KB up and I too have some anxiety regarding them.... should I try to get rid of them?

    All advice is appreciated!

    Hello @Sniggler,

    I have just spent a while investigating this!
    There doesn't seem to be a lot of definitive information about it!

    I did find this though . . .

    SOURCE: Mysterious update KB4023057 got released again: What it is for?

    Notes about this update:

    “This update may request your device to stay awake longer to enable installation of updates.
    Note: The installation will respect any user-configured sleep configurations and also your “active hours” when you use your device the most.
    This update may try to reset network settings if problems are detected, and it will clean up registry keys that may be preventing updates from being installed successfully.
    This update may repair disabled or corrupted Windows operating system components that determine the applicability of updates to your version of Windows 10.
    This update may compress files in your user profile directory to help free up enough disk space to install important updates.
    This update may reset the Windows Update database to repair the problems that could prevent updates from installing successfully. Therefore, you may see that your Windows Update history was cleared.”

    I hope this helps!

    I removed it since I use third party tools to control windows updates. Could be useful for everyone else who wants auto updates to succeed.

    Thanks, Callender. It appeared not in the list of Windows Updates, but as a Microsoft Program in Programs & Features. I have the Win10 Update Feature Updates blocked to avoid 2004 for now, so MS have slipped it in as a Quality Update and then Installed it as a Program. I used Geek Uninstaller to get rid of it.

    KB4023057 was categorized as a critical update as shown below. It was offered to users who did not (want to) install feature updates. I will hide it as soon as it appears.

    Howdy Folks,
    I installed KB4023057 since it was presented to me and could find no instance of it being installed prior. Though I thought it strange such an old update was still in use.
    Subsequently I found this article Microsoft pushes out KB4023057 yet again to force Windows 10 feature updates that made me wonder if I should uninstall KB4023057 as Callender has done.
    And Paul Black has posted an article that contains: "Only certain builds of Windows 10, versions 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703, 1709, and 1803 require this update."

    If you're on an earlier build and use auto updates and don't want to upgrade then remove it or prevent it from installing.

    @Callender
    I'm controlling updates with Group Policy Settings. I suspect that will prevent all automatic updates.
    Regardless, would you deem it "a good idea" to uninstall KB4023057 now, or not worry about it?
    I'm passing on 2004 with hopes that future Feature Updates will deal with the 2004 issues.
    Thanks again!

    @jdUnionngarden

    As far as I now if you want to stay on your current build and your settings block forced upgrades then don't worry about it. Except possibly that update could reconfigure your settings so consider removing it.

    Personal experience:

    I'm using Windows 10 Home with Sledgehammer Portable to control updates and wish to stick on 1903 for now. At some point I will back everything up and clean install whatever the latest build of windows happens to be at that time.

    RE: 2004.
    Upgraded my work machine (Windows 10 Pro) and so far the only issue was a corrupted notification area icon cache which was easy to fix.
    No other issues so far. Others may have had a different experience.

    Your tools should have stopped it being installed automatically.
    My scripts will certainly stop it.
