Thanks very much; I'll check out WUMT

and will stay tuned here for any other thoughts/replies.
    Best,

You can download wumt here. As far as I know, this won't have provision specifically for Windows Defender updates.

I've been using Matthew's cmd & vbscript solution which you can get here. It automatically checks WD updates every 6 hours and notifies of the availability. It will automatically launch wumt if you so choose.

    That could be misleading.

Actually, it automatically installs definition updates without notification.
It notifies you of other available updates.

That's odd. Whenever I start my PC in the am, usually from a sleep state, I often receive a window informing me of available updates and asking if I want to launch wumt. I hit OK, wumt starts, checks for updates and displays available WD virus definitions for download.

I'll look to see if I have a pic.

Still looking for the notification pic and wumt pic showing KB2267602 offering, I'm sure I have it. Here's a pic of the update history from wumt.

I suspect you have not imported the scheduled task of updating WD.
Right-click on the Start button -->Windows PowerShell. Run the following command:

    Get-ScheduledTask "WDD_Updates"

If it cannot find "WDD_Updates", run "Import Scheduled Task.cmd" to import the tasks again. Note that "WDD_Updates Task.xml" will be imported as long as Windows Defender is running at the moment.

The following shows the correct output when "WDD_Updates" has been imported.

I never have to install definition updates manually. All of the following have been installed automatically in the background without notification.

    Interesting...

It does appear to have the WDD updates set.

I have to admit, I installed the cmd/vb script on 2 PC's and the installation on my primary required some tweaking.
For some odd reason, it didn't create and populate C:\# .
I read the script files after it didn't function and manually created C:\# and copied files to it.
For whatever reason, it works like a charm but I receive notifications for updates and WD definition file updates.
I'm not so certain I want to change that feature. I get piece of mind seeing the WD updates.

I might like to understand why it works differently so as I might fix it properly at a future date.

I've seen it on 3 PCs in the past week. Fortunately, they are all fixed with Matthew's cmd & VB script. That makes the update easy to hide with wumt.

The following member uninstalled it rather than hid it.

Installed quickly here and then I quickly uninstalled it shortly after from the control panel, deleted the empty folder from "Program Files" and removed the on boot startup service (since it didn't exist anymore)...

    No thanks MS.

    Just for information.

I Installed KB4023057 [ Windows Update Health Tools ] as a test using WUMT and then Restarted.

I then tried to Uninstall it using WUMT and it said it was Uninstallable as per the screenshot below . . .

However, I did Uninstall it from Settings => Apps => Apps & Features and then Restarted . . .

I then decided to run the WUMT again to see if the Update became available, but it did NOT.
