Dell Inspiron 15 5565 refuses to complete Windows 10 Insider Preview u

    Howdy,

I posted this on the Dell forums with no luck.

I have been trying for six months to get this laptop to successfully update its OS. It was updating fine until around January, then it stopped working. The updates all download and install fine, but the system fails to complete the update and reverts back to the old version.

This machine is on the list of Dell devices tested to update to Win10 2004, and after dozens of clean installs and manual installs, it still will not finish the update.

I am on version 18363.836 now.

Sometimes I get a pixelated screen and other times, nothing. Just the black screen with the Dell Logo...

I have brought this up on the Microsoft forum, but they have not been able to help. If this laptop is on the list of Dell products that are supposed to work, what is the issue? Dell diagnostics have not revealed a defect in the hardware, so I am getting tired of all these dozens of upgrades that all fail.

Has anyone been able to get this to work on this particular computer?

    Thanks...

    Welcome to Tenforums lnxguy!

Not this particular computer, but have been an Insider for a long time, and survived a lot of problems with updates.

Not clear to which version do you want to update. You said Insider in title, but then old versions in text body.. Are you on Slow ring?

I would recommend you to get the latest ISO available from MS (for your ring - Slow is now beta, and fast is dev...), and perform Inplace upgrade install

Tutorials | Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Also resetting Windows Update would be good (troubleshooter does mostly the same)

Check this tutorials, and report back. And sorry if you already done this...

Yep. Done all that and dozens of resets and clean installs...

I am on what used to be called the fast ring. I have tried to update to every version since January. The 20190 update has run seven or eight times already...

The update works, but the system fails on reboot. Something is wrong with the graphics driver or some other unknown conflict. Like I said, it updated to Fast Ring just fine until January.

Long shot, but try this.. See you have an AMD processor (please update your computer specs)

Disable virtualization in your BIOS and try again

All of the Dell 15 5565 laptops have an AMD processor. Mine was a low cost model with an A7 and was sold at Walmart for $200.00!
In the process of looking up the specs for the laptop, so you could see them all, I discovered there are seven different processors used, all with the same model number.
When I looked up the latest offering from Walmart, the same model number now has an A12 with 12GB or RAM and costs $1600.00! This got me thinking that most likely the version tested and certified to run Windows 10 2004 is one of the new, high power versions an NOT my model...
    Looks like I am SOL...

Also: I see no virtualization settings in the BIOS...

I'm not aware of any A7 processor.. Maybe AMD A6-9200 Processor?

AMD can have virtualization setting a bit hidden. I'm not familiar with Dell laptop BIOSes.

It should be somewhere under Advanced, CPU features (AMD-V or similar)
