Wow, this reminds me of when I had a virus on windows XP (many moons ago) ! I'll need to have a good read of all this, but do I do it now, or try and download the file dalchina points to first, or both ?

    Edit.

Ref 3. If one drive is the programme that duplicates files, I disabled it when I upgraded to windows 10, and I don't use dropbox. What is google drive ?

    Simple path:
    a. reset Windows Update if not already done
    b. download the update file, attempt to update - if you wish after a clean boot (Google or tutorial if unsure).
    c. if it fails as it may well do, note the error message/number
    d. proceed with zbook's sequence

Error message, screen OCR'd for you for search purposes.
    Installer encountered an error: 0x8024000e

    Try searching for that.

Have you run the Windows Update Troubleshooter?

Solution to Windows Update error 0x8024000E - solved with fix

re things like cache errors, going back years ie when I was younger, before I retired, I had a mate who worked in the techy department who taught me most of what little I relatively know, and I used to defrag my computers etc regularly, on his advice and guidance. That was back in the days of windows 98, then XP. Now I do not, and haven't defragged my current PC at all since I bought it with window 7 installed.

When all this is solved and I move on, is this sort of thing still necessary, will it avoid overloading cache and keeping your desktop in prime condition, like it used to do ?

I ran the batch file (twice) but it says press any key to continue, and by doing that it blows it away so I can't continue ?????

    The logs displayed BSOD.

Search for C:\windows\memory.dmp > save to another folder such as downloads > post a share link with only this file

    Code:
    LastWriteTime Size (MB) FullName
    ------------- --------- --------

    what is WU ?

Sorry, windows update ? What other windows update reports do you need ?

How do I open windows.dmp and post it to you ?

Note / edit. I had a few updating issues in the last few months before I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10, so I only updated the security updates because I looked at the monthly links on microsoft and didn't know how to select the ones I needed etc.

Since updating to windows 10 I've had no problem, and thought that this installation had bypassed those problems.

Should I get, or do I need, a new computer, with a fresh install and hardware ? I was prepared to get one instead of doing the w10 upgrade, but didn't want to have to reset everything etc particular my raspberry pi and squeezebox (although this works my hifi without switching the computer on), and toyed with using linux but stuck with what I've used for years ie microsoft in the end.
