    New Optional Updates

I finally got the 2004 update on this PC but now it shows a list of optional updates. I'm not sure they even apply. The 4 Intel ones don't really have any info at all. The Realtek one I'm not sure if it is an update to what the driver already in place and have no idea about the Alcor one at all. Unfortunately Dell's website that shows drivers is not much help either.

    Any ideas what these are?

    Thanks

Typically, I allow Windows update to install the updated drivers. If a problem arises, you can use a recovery point to roll back the changes. You could also make a backup of all your existing drivers:

As for the Alcor driver - that is a card reader driver. Do you have a card reader (SD card, micro SD, etc.) built into or attached to yur system?

I guess the "issue" I'm having is determining if these drivers that WU is suggesting to install are the most recent ones released. Are they newer than what is on there? Or in case of the Intel ones, what are they for? just "Intel" doesn't tell me much

I have a similar complaint with Dell's "driver checker" It will show no updates on the scan but then show drivers that appear to be more recent than what is installed

As for the card reader yes there is one on there but is the driver that WU showing newer than the one on there?

    Thanks,

WU should not present a driver that is older than the one already there. If does, then that is flaw and not the norm.

Again, if unsure, either don't install those drivers, or perform some sort of backup first.
