Will Update 2004 Update By Itself?

Will the new update 2004 update by itself or will we have to install it manually?

Apparently it will only install itself once the Windows version you have installed is EOL. So I don't think it will if you're on 1903/1909 for example, but I'm not fully sure.

You've not stated your current Windows build, so here's a more general article:

Now if a feature update is available, Windows 10 will no longer download and install it automatically. Instead it'll notify the user that a feature update is available for download and will provide a "Download and Install Now" option on Windows Updates page to start the upgrade process.

So now no feature update will be installed automatically and users will have full control over feature updates download and installation. If a Windows 10 user wants to upgrade to new feature update, he can click on "Download and Install Now" option present on Windows Updates page.
There are 2 things to note:
    1. This change to Windows Update process is present under upcoming Windows 10 May 2019 Update at the moment but very soon this functionality will be brought to previous Windows 10 versions such as Windows 10 April 2018 Update version 1803 and October 2018 Update version 1809 via an update by late May.
    2. Despite this Windows Update process change, a feature update will still automatically download and install in computers which are having older Windows 10 versions reaching end of support.

    I'm still on 1909.

End of Service for 1909 is May 11, 2021. Microsoft have previously begun the automatic rollout at about 3 or 4 months before end of service, so Jan./Feb. 2021 seems likely. Currently it is just 1809 (or earlier) that's getting the update pushed....

So youre saying my win version wont get pushed an update until jan 2021. In that case I should just update to 2004 manually then right?

Does your Windows Update offer 2004?

Correct, January at the earliest, maybe not even until May 2021....

Does the 2004 feature update appear in your Windows Update? Does it have a 'download and install' link to click?

If not, then I would not recommend trying to manually upgrade. There are some machines that are not being offered the update yet, Microsoft are withholding it from machines with known issues. It is safest to wait until MS resolve those issues, then it will be offered.

Anyway, there's little that is significantly new in 2004, you're not missing much by sticking with 1909 for a bit longer.

I've gotten the 2004 Upgrade on a Desktop and a few Notebooks but also am not being offered it by Check for updates for 2 Desktops, both with AMD CPUs. I got it using the Check for updates on an Intel i3, works okay, and due to other issues with a Vizio All-in-One that was given me used the USB Thumb drive and manually started the setup.exe file which seems to be working just fine. So far only 1 Desktop is showing the message that the update is on the way and the notice will appear on the Update and Security page in Settings and 1 is not giving anything for a clue.
