2004, should it be installed by now?

    Hi
I am running windows 10 pro, the build is 18363.997, version 1909 installed 12/06/2019

The 2004 update was showing on my computer for a few weeks saying my pc was not ready. then it became available but it did not install correctly. I have the following error messages 0x8007042b and then again 0xc1900101.

Please advise if I should just leave it until my pc automatically downloads it or are these failed downloads stopping it from updating? I'm not a computer expert by any means.

I have read that updates can be deleted but I'm wary of doing too much on this pc as it is used for my work.
    Thanks for your help.

Hi, see typical discussion on this question:
    Still on Winver 1909

2004: wait a while. It seems MS may not be auotmatically offering this by Windows Update in general. Besides, as has been said here so many times, it's a phased release over some months.

    automatically downloads it
    - you now have to opt in when it is offered- a safety measure MS introduced at last to give people control.

I have the following error messages 0x8007042b and then again 0xc1900101.
Upgrade errors: next to impossible to diagnose even after weeks of inspecting upgrade log files etc.
0xc1900101 - typically indicates a driver migration problem.

Note I'm still on 1903- deliberately- MS initially messed up Windows search in 1909, so I stayed clear of that. The dust has yet to settle after 2004.

as it is used for my work.
    - consult your IT dept about the upgrade failure when you're ready to upgrade. I would hope they have an upgrade policy in place. Don't rush to upgrade if you want stability.

    Thanks for your speedy response.

    I will just wait then.

Re last point, I'm self employed so no support from any IT department so that is why I'm wary of doing too much if it's not necessary.

I have 2004 on some of my machines. TBH there's very little that's significantly new, you'd be hard pressed to spot any changes from 1909. There's no compelling reason to try and force an upgrade, especially as 1909 is fully supported until May 2021.

Back up and running after the reboot. Not seeing anything out of the ordinary. Seems okay. Time will tell.

I'm having a similar problem as the OP. In my case I was offered the 2004 update soon after it became available but chose not to install it. It remained in Windows Update for a period of time and then suddenly disappeared. I can not get it to appear again. I do not get any compatibility messages. Just curious if anyone else has the same problem as I do and why the update just disappeared?
