I'm having a similar problem as the OP. In my case I was offered the 2004 update soon after it became available but chose not to install it. It remained in Windows Update for a period of time and then suddenly disappeared. I can not get it to appear again. I do not get any compatibility messages. Just curious if anyone else has the same problem as I do and why the update just disappeared?
Yes, lots of people have the same issue and it's because Windows Update is running the way Microsoft wants it to.

MS may offer a more "bug fixed" version of 2004 come August patch Tuesday 8/11
they just need to remove some of the upgrade blocks that are in place and/or update the WU metadata for the v2004 upgrade

Same as you. I attempted to install it originally. It didnt like ut and took itself back to 1909. Since then the update has disappeared and i am still on 1909.

I also still have this problem.

At first i had the message most people probably had, the longer text about "your system isnt ready yet blablabla, it will come when ready and you dont have to do anything".

For like well over month now its a short text basically saying : when the update is ready, it will show here, period".

Running 1909, so i still dont get what the problem is, as people with 1909 supposedly, should be compatible with 2004 anyway.
I dont suffer from ANY of the known issues for 2004 update.

    So i dont get it.

Its an "older" alienware/dell system, thats the only reason i can think of without getting any info as to why im not being offered the update.

'Old' is not the reason, one of my oldest machines was the first to be offered the update. Usually it's a hardware/driver compatibility issue (in particular for Nvidia) and it will be offered once MS and/or Nvidia have resolved it.

But TBH I don't understand why everyone seems so keen to get 2004 straight away. I have it on some of my machines and I'm hard pressed to find any significant differences or improvements over 1909. With 1909 in full support until May 2021 there is no compelling reason to get 2004 straight away, and several good reasons (aka bugs) to wait for a while.

Yeh but i dont have nvidia driver problems.
That one only counts for old drivers, as im using an rtx 2060 with latest drivers, that cant be the issue.

I dont suffer from any of the still ongoing problems reported on the microsoft 2004 knowledgebase page or whatever its called.
