    Metered connection question

Download updates over metered connections (extra charge may apply) What does this mean? I'm on Hughesnet and was wondering if I should set it to metered or, just turn off automatic updates? Thanks!

Do you have a monthly cap on the amount of data you can download? If you exceed that are you charged extra? Are you charged in any manner for data downloads, whether those be Windows updates, program downloads, AV updates or videos, for example?

If your internet download allowance is unlimited, there's no problem.

Meanwhile, for those on restricted (slow) connections there are some controls in Settings, but they don't directly help to address this.

Yes I have a limit of 20GB per month they don't charge if I go over but the speed will slow way down. I think I will disable updates and check them between the hours of 2-8 am when I have 50GB capacity. Thanks again!

    This may be of interest:

Then there's Sledgehammer (free) which disables WU allowing Defender updates, including this, which appears to offer a schedule too:

Think through how you will handle feature updates (upgrades) in particular.

Note that MS has a bad habit of adding bugs with updates. Some are fine. Most CUs can be uninstalled of course.
