There are non-Microsoft drivers that are installed during a clean install.
    Which driver is problematic?
A lot of drivers, like mouse drivers, which annoy me with a popup from time to time.

    - in what way and for what particular driver or drivers?
These setting are global. Like: (i am paraphrasing) stop using windows update to install drivers.
I didn't see anywhere option to disable specific driver, but i don't remember them from head. Anyway i already tried everything from these guides and nothing ever worked. I heard this is problem, i don't think this can be disabled. I asked here, because some expert could have idea and this annoying...

Could you please clarify the statement above? It would appear that you're attempting to disable automatic driver updates yet you have not tried option 2 here, is that correct?
No no, i already tried all of these options from all these guides posted above and nothing ever worked. I heard from many sources it just doesn't work, as it is broken... I already searched for it many times, from time to time and nothing i ever found worked...

Except that one gpedit option to prevent driver installation by entering driver id, but than it will prevent any driver installation. Not only automatic.

Get WinAero Tweaker here: Downloads / Software / Winaero Tweaker

One check mark will do the job.

It'll do a lot of other things, too.

I know about 1 thing, you can block driver installation, if you put driver id to gpedit. But that isn't solution for everything...
You really shouldn't let Windows or 3rd party programs, download and install your drivers. Download them manually and install them yourself.
Get them from the manufacturer's website.

    Search tutorials list
    Windows 10 Tutorial Index
    for driver

    Specific:
Prevent Windows Update from Updating Specific Device Driver

    All:
Turn On or Off Device Driver Automatic Installation in Windows 10

    Not via WU:
Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10

    Disable particular update:
Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

    - and see linked list of related tutorials below the main text

Note that occasionally updates are handled by means other than Windows Update.

And if none of those work for YOU (for whatever reason, technical or personal preference) then take complete control using a free 3rd party program which allow you to manually scan and choose what to download. E.g. Option 7

Why not use Windows Update MiniTool, which lets you install or hide (= block) a driver?

Windows 19041.423 has moved updating some drivers to the optional updates.

I empathize with your frustration, it drives me nuts when my PC just won't cooperate simply because the software developer doesn't share my point of view and forces me to accept their's.

I have 3 PCs I maintain at home. None of these PCs receive automatic driver updates because I have successfully modified them such that I can decide when any updates happen. Obviously, something is configured differently between your PC and mine.

Many users have successfully disabled automatic updates, so some of these solutions presented do work properly. The fix may require a tweak due to something different on your PC.

You may have searched high and low but obviously you haven't yet discovered a solution that works on your PC, for one reason or another. There are many talented people here doing their best to assist you in resolving your grief.

Instead of just insisting that that myriad of posted solutions don't work, why don't you try to work with someone here to find what works for your PC?

Haha what? I was talking about blocking driver installation by id, using gpedit. But than you can't install any driver, in case you don't want preinstalled driver, but you want to install official driver. Or pop out window shows randomly from time to time: to install mouse drivers, i but prefer default from ms. And this annoys me.

I don't think this would do the job, you can turn this off in programs, which are suppose to fix privacy, or maybe even in windows... I am pretty sure, i already turned this on! I am also pretty sure i have this on in gpedit and it doesn't work!!!

I was already using this, but this prevents you to install any driver. For example i get pop outs to install mouse driver, but if i used this. It would prevent installation of even default microsoft drivers and mouse would stop working!

    This i have already disabled.

I don't know what else, but i am pretty sure i tried all of these...

I already tried like 50 things and nothing worked! I literally probably googled this many times over like 10 years and nothing i found ever worked

Hmm, i used sledgehammer script for awhile, but even that didn't prevent automatic driver installation, i don't think. Also it corrupted windows, that may be only, because it changed some things and did nothing harmful. But i had many times broken install for some reason and i don't like use customs scripts etc...

I don't understand, what do you want me to do? When i remember, i already tried these and it didn't work ? I already went over all of these from previous posts and added new values to regedit, nothing worked as usual!

This is your response to the recommendation of using wumt that was first suggested in post #3 and again later. It sounds very much like you've dismissed this solution without trying it. I've been using wumt since January and have not experienced any surprise windows updates or driver updates. This solution works for many PCs. If it doesn't work for yours, instead of dismissing the solution, why not try to understand why it doesn't work and try to solve the problem.

There's no magic answer to fix or tweak every last PC in the free world, some PCs require modifications to the standard solutions. If your PC doesn't respond positively to the solutions that others are successfully using, it might be time to learn why and what makes your PC different. Of all the potential fixes presented in this thread, I assure you that one or more will work on your PC if you make the effort.

Sledgehammer will disable the "Windows Update" service. How can drivers be installed without the service?

The only other way would be drivers installed independently of WU - e.g. via a scheduled task. There was a point when Nvidia updates evaded WU and any kind of block.

I've used it, no issues. Perhaps there's a problem with your Windows installation?
